NEW LOOK NEWSLETTER

Welcome to our new Newsletter platform!

The newsletter will no longer be emailed out (today will be the final emailed version)

The school newsletter will now be attached to the school app so please make sure to download the school app - once published you will receive an alert to let you know it is available to view.

There are a few great new features with this change – you are able to change the size of the text, along with the language you can view it in and it is easier to view on mobile devices.

A PDF version will still be available on our school website.

Please bear with us for the next few weeks while we get this off the ground.

TRACY'S MESSAGE

Kia Ora Ano

A very warm welcome to term 2 2021. I hope you all got to spend some precious time together over the break - there is lots on this term starting this week with our tangaroa and papatunuku learners embarking on exciting learning adventures.

Our Tangaroa learners are having a special focus on 'Our Place in Space’. They will be learning about the Moon and Sun and their effects on life on Earth. They will also be learning about Earth's place in our Solar System.

Papatuanuku will be undertaking an inquiry driven by the Digital Technologies Curriculum. They will work through a design process and learn to use trial and error, they will create things both hands on and digitally, and they will learn the role of empathy as part of the design process to understand that what others see, feel and experience can help us to design effectively.

Our Ranginui team are learning about Novel Study/Literature Circles, Creative narrative writing, Algebra (patterns and relationships) and multiplicative thinking, Tūrangawaewae art study (understanding where I stand).

If you are around this Friday between 9-10am pop in and have a chat and a cup of tea with me.

Wishing all mums, a blessed Mother’s Day on Sunday. Hoping you all get to spend precious time with your tamariki. Don’t you just love Mother’s Day breakfast in bed and wonderful homemade cards!

DRS MESSAGE

This term in classes we are learning about

Te Wairua Tapu / The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity and came to earth to unite us with Jesus in our daily lives.

Pentecost Sunday is on Sunday 23 May. We call this the birthday of the Church because this was when the Holy Spirit was sent to reassure and encourage Jesus' people to not be afraid to carry on and share His good news (even though he had gone to heaven).

YOU CAN SUPPORT YOUR CHILD WITH THEIR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION BY:

  • Walking in the wind and remembering how it is like the Holy Spirit.
(You cannot see it but you can feel it and see the effects of it.)
  • Talking about our school values which are the fruits of the Holy Spirit and how you can use them at home and school. (Galatians 4:22-25)
  • Encourage them to let the Holy Spirit work through them to make good choices and reach out to others.
  • Be sure to tell then when you notice the Holy Spirit working in them when they show love, patience, kindness etc.

What’s coming up this term? - May is the Month of Mary

SUNDAY 9 MAY - Mother’s Day

THURSDAY 13 MAY - Ascension of Jesus

SUNDAY 23 MAY - Pentecost Sunday

SATURDAY 19 JUNE - Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

SATURDAY 19 JUNE - Venerable Suzanne Aubert’s 185th birthday

Later this term we will be having a parish/school combined Sunday Mass 10.30 (date TBC). If you child or whanau are interested in having an active role in this through a ministry such as reading, singing, procession of the gifts etc please get in touch with vanessa.mccormack@sfds.school.nz

COMMUNITY NOTICES

Kia ora parents/guardians,

Wellington City Active Travel Research Project

You may be receiving this information for the second time. This is because we have received low overall engagement in the active school travel survey from eligible families and whānau. If you have already filled this survey out, Thank you! We do not require you to fill it out for a second time. If you have not filled out this survey, please read on.

My name is Zara Molijn and I am a Masters student in Public Policy at the Victoria University of Wellington. The Wellington City Council want to better understand what is holding years 0 through 8 children back from walking, biking, scootering and/or skating to and from school.

To be able to gain this type of insight, we need your help!

We are asking that just one parent/guardian per household fills out an anonymous 5 - 10 minute survey. The survey will be open for 3 weeks. Thus, from midnight on Wednesday the 19th of May we will no longer be accepting responses.

Follow this link to the Survey: http://vuw.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9N1SndqcjyIMNiC

Your response will provide us with valuable insights that will help inform how we can make active school travel safe and easy.

Your response is anonymous therefore we will not be able to identify you. Additionally, all results will be presented at an aggregate level meaning schools will not be individually identifiable.

As a thank you for your participation, completed surveys that state a child's school will be entered into a prize draw where the school can win 1 of the 3 sports equipment prize packs. The more parents from the school that complete the survey, the more chances the school will have to win. The equipment in these prize packs has been kindly donated by the Wellington Community Sports Bank. The winners for these prize packs will be drawn by a random number generator at the end of May, 2021.

If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me at molijnzara@myvuw.ac.nz

We appreciate your time and thank you in advance.

Ngā mihi nui,

Zara Molijn
