Dear DPM Families,
Valentine’s Day is always special at DPM from our classroom parties to Vocal Valentines. Our 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders enjoyed being serenaded by their friends in choir and enjoying sweet treats to celebrate with each other!
Our team of 7th grade language arts students ROCKED their debates in the Haskins yesterday. The classes engaged in heated debates over age-old rhetorical questions like, “Should the school day start early in the morning or later?” The students performed research, collected text evidence, and used data to develop their arguments with their teams. Many students even dressed for the occasion to enhance the professionalism of their presentations at the dais. Shout out to their teacher leaders: Elana Lazarus, Lauren Keating, Nicole Karkazis, Shana West, Alyssa Micksch and Stephanie Drakeley. One of our goals is to cultivate citizenship and an understanding of civic duty. It was amazing to see these young activists developing before our eyes!
Another celebration this week is the newest article from DPM’s Colene Hardy (8th-grade language arts teacher) published in EdTech Magazine entitled "Combining Movement and Technology Enhances Learning.” We are honored to work with educators who give their best in the classroom and contribute to the profession of education. Congratulations, Colene!
We hope all our DPM families enjoy the long Presidents’ Day Weekend!

D115 Referendum Information
The Lake Forest Community High School District 115 Board of Education is pursuing a $105.7M referendum on the April 4, 2023 Lake County election ballot. District 115 seeks to protect and improve its 88-year-old historic, landmark community high school by addressing the building’s most pressing capital facility needs. The proposed improvements would help create a healthier, safer, and more secure school while extending the building’s useful life, reduce costly and disruptive emergency repairs, enhance ADA accessibility, improve energy efficiency, and strengthen the District’s ability to provide continued excellence in education.

8th Grade Families
The Class of 2023 is starting to gear up for the end of the year, and that means we’d like to start collecting photos of your grad that will be included in a class photo montage.
We would like you to send us:
1) a photo of your child when they were little (baby, toddler, etc just no naked baby photos please!) and
2) a more recent one of them as an 8th grader.
Ideally these would be photos with only your child but we’ll do our best to crop out other family members. A photo of a hard copy photo is ok too!
Please send them to our Class of 2023 mailbox at deerpathapt5678@gmail.com.
Any questions about 8th grade activities or want to help out with the Class of 2023 Celebration? Email monica.yaun@gmail.com
As your 8th grader continues to get service hours from book sorting, Valentine making, or outside activities, make sure your child is recording their service hours! This link can also be found on the DPM web page: https://www.lakeforestschools.org/domain/1203
