Stanley Avenue School Newsletter
Term 4, Week 1
From the principal's desk
Tena koutou katoa,
Nau mai haere mai, welcome back to Term 4. We have had an excellent first week back, with refreshed students aspiring to be their best and making the most of opportunities on offer. Have a wonderful Labour Weekend with your families/ whānau.
Covid- 19, and other flu and viruses have caused havoc with a number of students' attendance this year, which has been a common trend across New Zealand. With warmer Term 4 weather, along with a healthier community, students now have the opportunity to increase their attendance rates.
The Ministry of Education defines ‘regular attendance’ as 90% or higher. I thank you in advance for your support and cooperation with this matter.
Kids Club Staff Changes
I would like to acknowledge the tremendous contribution that Leonna Foulds has made to the Stanley Avenue Kids Club. Leonna was part of the original Kids Club set-up going back 16 years. During that time she has performed admirably in the Coordinator role providing a strong and sustainable programme for many Te Aroha children. Leonna now resides in the Far North and we wish her and her family all of the best for a successful future.
Kat Kelsey, who is currently a Learner Assistant at Stanley Avenue School, has recently resigned from her Supervisor role, a position that she has held for the last seven years. Kat has carried out an impressive job in this role, building strong relationships and connections with the students and their families/ whānau who have come through Kids Club over all of these years. We wish Kat all the best for the future opportunities that she is pursuing.
Over the holiday period the Board of Trustees have been busy appointing two new staff to fill the above roles. Firstly, Sharon Grace has been appointed as the new Coordinator. Sharon has a background in Corrections, Health and Child Welfare and we know that she will add value to her role. Welcome Sharon.
Elbie Loneko, who works as Learner Assistant in Room 10 at SAS has won the Supervisor position. We are excited to have Elbie’s expertise in this role as she has a long and successful history of working with children. Nau mai haere mai, Elbie!
I know our Kids Club Community will support and encourage Sharon and Elbie as they settle into their new roles.

HERO Digital Reports
Welcome to the start of Term 4!
This term we will be producing our very first digital end of year reports on HERO.
For this we need each Parent to have their own email registered with us. You don’t need to use the email for anything else, you just need your own email to sign into the app on your phone. One of the fantastic things about HERO is that it is designed specifically as an app to work on phones and is the best way to access it. On the day that reports are sent it will be right there on your HERO app. On the report it will show you how you can download and print the report if you are wanting to, however it will always sit in their HERO profile for you.
The Hero app enables teachers and students to share information about a student’s learning, progress, and achievement to support learning and improve student outcomes.
It provides a platform for promoting student agency and building a strong partnership between the student, their teacher/s, and the student’s family.
Once you have downloaded HERO, open it and click on “new user”.
Next enter the email you have registered with us under your name, set your password and then either enjoy or let us know if there are any issues.

This season Northern Districts have made a new and improved yr 3-5 softball competition. Instead of playing on a weekend we have changed it to a Friday night. The competition is for 6 weeks in term 4 and another one in term 1. Cricket, like most sports struggled through covid, so we are trying to make a big push to get our tamariki active again.
