Winter Break is rapidly approaching and we cannot believe we are halfway through the school year! We hope everyone has a happy and healthy holiday season. All 7th grade teachers are in need of tissue boxes; if you are able to send in tissue boxes with your student, it would be greatly appreciated!

Math
We are finishing up Unit 5, Proportional Relationships, by taking the Unit 5 Test on Dec 1 then moving into Unit 6, Solving and Applying Proportions. In Unit 6 we will be covering basic conversions, multi-step equations involving proportions, ratios and using proportions to solve problems. We will be taking the Unit 6 Test Dec 19 or Dec 20.

Advanced Math
We are working on Unit 4, Systems of Linear Equations which covers graphing linear equations, solving systems of equations by graphing, substitution and elimination and determining the number of solutions. We are scheduled for the Unit 4 Test on Dec 7 & 8. We will spend the rest of the semester reviewing for the End of Semester Cumulative Final Exam which should take place Dec 18 - 19 and will cover all material learned so far.

About Your Teacher, Shannon Ritzman
Hi! My name is Shannon Ritzman and I am the Team Spirit Math teacher. I’m part of a military family so I’m from a little bit of everywhere but I was most recently living in Michigan. I graduated from the University of Michigan twice, once with a bachelor’s in psychology and once with a master’s in math. I have taught six and a partial years in the Detroit and Flint areas of Michigan, this being my first at Cheyenne. I have been living here in Edmond since July with my partner, his kids and our Maine Coone cat Bela Lagosi.

Literacy
For the last two and half weeks of this semester, we will be introducing students to elements of science fiction by reading the short stories “All Summer in a Day” (Ray Bradbury) and “The Last Dog” (Katherine Paterson). We will also have vocabulary quizzes over EdClub Week 12 words on 12/8 and Week 13 words on 12/15. Mrs. Harp-Graham and Ms. Farrell wish you a happy holiday season and hope that you continue reading over the break!

Hello my name is Joann Harp-Graham and I teach 7th Grade Literacy! I just moved to Edmond from the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I recently got married to my college sweetheart! Hook ‘em Horns! This is my 20th year in education. Simply put I enjoy teaching and interacting with the students daily. I am very happy to be here at Cheyenne. Hi, I’m Chantelle Farrell. This is my 16th year in education, and my 2nd here at Cheyenne. I’m originally from Enid, but Edmond is now home. I live with my calico Cassie that I adopted while living and teaching in Beijing, China. I enjoy doing crossword puzzles, reading, and playing in a chamber orchestra. I am also the English Learner specialist here at Cheyenne, so I work with students in 6th - 8th grades that need additional help learning English as a Second Language.

Next week, we are going to write an argumentative essay. This essay will be a 4 step process - due Friday, Dec. 5. We then will move to read a play adaptation of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

Science
In Science, we will be covering Unit 3 before leaving on break. Unit 3 focuses on a more global approach and looks at resources, global warming and how we interact with our environment around us. Students will be completing a project during the short week before break that will serve as their summative assessment grade for Unit 3. They will act as engineers and create a new city in the world. Mr. Miller and Ms. Lee look forward to a wonderful new semester of fun experiences beginning in January! Happy Holidays!!
