Talk about "Shakespeare AND BEYOND"! In this session, we move beyond the classics and dive into the diverse cultures and stories offered to us and our students through literature.

This session explores the ways in which English classrooms can meaningfully explore diverse issues such as South Asian heritage, Aboriginal culture and issues, and more.

We have incredible guest speakers, with a wealth of knowledge and resources to support us as we continue to push ourselves to make the English classroom a diverse and rich learning environment for all of our students, and all of their stories.

SESSION 2: Literacy By Number

Tuesday, Feb. 24th, 4-5:30pm

Turner Fenton Secondary School, Kennedy Road South, Brampton, ON, Canada

Brampton, ON

With the PDSB's focus on numeracy, many English teachers are wondering how to support this in their own classrooms. This session discusses lesson and unit ideas, including financial literacy, problem solving, and math processes to help ensure the inclusion of numeracy in the English classroom. Not only will these help to develop numeracy in our students, but they will add a richness to your English lessons as well!

Join us for cookies, coins, chatting and creative thinking about numeracy and what it looks like in English on February 24, 2015. As always, there will be tasty treats, practical ideas, smiling faces and a fabulous prize draw for books.
