FMSD Information about Coronavirus
COVID-19, more commonly known as the Coronavirus, has continued to spread overseas and there have been 14 confirmed cases in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), of those 14 confirmed cases 12 are travel related and 2 are person to person transfer. While the virus has not become widespread in the United States and government agencies are working to prevent or contain any cases identified on U.S. soil, our district continues to monitor the situation. We will work closely with our contacts at the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC) to stay informed of any developments of confirmed cases in the U.S. and implement any recommendations or guidelines from the CDC or SC DHEC as they are determined.
While this virus has not impacted our area, there are great resources available for parents and community members to learn about the virus symptoms, preventative measures and current confirmed cases. Links to these resources can be found below.
As always we encourage everyone to practice proper handwashing, cover mouth and nose with tissue when coughing or sneezing, and children or staff should stay home if they are ill.

US Census:
The first census was conducted in 1790, and it continues every decade. A “complete count” is important for our state and for York County. Billions of federal dollars (over $675 Billion!) are allocated based on census data and will be allocated for the next 10 years. In 2010, nearly 1 million children under the age of 5 were not counted. This year’s census will be ground-breaking in several ways, but mainly for the additional ways that households can complete the census. This year, a household will be able to complete the census online or via telephone in addition to the traditional mail options. The online and phone options will hopefully make completion more convenient for all involved and result in a more accurate count. In mid-March, homes across the country will begin receiving invitations to complete the 2020 census. Once your invitation arrives, you should respond for your home either online, by phone, or by mail. Watch for more information as we approach Census Day on April 1, 2020! More details can be found here: https://2020census.gov/en.html
