Principal's Pen
Good morning! This week on Friday we celebrate the feast of one of my favorite saints, St. Pio of Pietrelcina, or as most people know him, Padre Pio. He was born in 1887 and died September 23, 1968. He was canonized by Pope John Paul II on June 16, 2002 and more 300,000 people attended the ceremony. At the bottom of this newsletter is an episode from the podcast Saint Stories for Kids about Padre Pio. It tells one of the many miraculous events known from Padre Pio's life.
Next Friday, September 30, we are bringing back one of our students' favorite activities. We are going to have our first bake sale of the year. Our bake sales are sponsored by the Parent Association, and the proceeds are used by the Parent Association. This is how we pay for busing for field trips, school-wide activities, and even classroom supplies for the teachers. There is a sign-up on SchoolSpeak for this bake sale. Those who sign up should carefully read the instructions describing how to package the items. If you don't get a slot this time, no worries. We plan to hold a bake sale the last Friday of each month so there will be more opportunities to bake. Parents, save your singles this week because all items cost $1. Remember to send your children with their dollars on Friday! Items that are not sold by the end of the lunch period are sold for half price during dismissal.
Our Caught Being a Christian Award this week goes to Sadie Flunker, one of our third grade students. On the first day of school Sadie noticed a new student in her class sitting by himself during art class. She left the table where she was sitting with her friends to sit with the new student. Sadie was practicing the virtues of affability and kindness. Great job, Sadie!
Have a wonderful week!
God bless,
Angela Oller
Spirit Day Thursdays
Each Thursday, we will be having a spirit day to remind ourselves to follow Bishop Baraga's example. That means on Thursdays students may wear their Trekker t-shirts and jeans. If students need a trekker t-shirt, they are available in the office for $10. Students may not wear leggings or tight fitting jeans. Anyone not following the guidelines for spirit days will be asked to wear their uniform pants or skirts for future spirit days.
