Gifted and Talented Screening Information
5th Grade: Students in fifth grade, who are not currently identified for the elementary Challenge program, have the opportunity to be screened for Gifted and Talented Program service to begin in the fall of sixth grade. Secondary gifted program options are available in English, Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Students may be screened in any or all of these content areas. GT screening information for Junior High School will be sent home with all 5th grade students the first week of September. After that date, Secondary GT Parent Checklists will be available to parents upon request from the front office, or online at http://www.katyisd.org/dept/gt/Pages/default.aspx If you would like your child screened for the Junior High GT program, the Secondary Checklist will be due by 4:00 pm on Friday, September 21st. No late checklists will be accepted.
Kindergarten: GT information packets will be sent home with all Kindergarten students in their take-home folders the week of September 14th. If you would like your child screened for the Elementary Challenge GT program, the Kindergarten GT Parent Checklist from the packet will be due by 4:00 pm on Wednesday, October 7th. No late checklists will be accepted.
1st-4th Grade: Information about 1st-4th Grade screening for the Katy ISD Gifted and Talented program will be sent home at the end of November due by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, December 11th.
Family Night at The Robert R. Shaw Center for STEAM
The Robert R. Shaw Center for STEAM will be having a Family STEAM Night on Friday, September 25th. The purpose is to promote student and parental interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. The event will feather interactive activities and a presentation from Rice University's Civic Scientist Program. The event is designed for students in grades 3 - 8.
