PEER TO PEER
Hi Novi Meadows Families!
My name is Kelsey Gault (LMSW, C-SSWS). I am one of the school social workers at Novi Meadows. I would like to extend the opportunity for students to participate in a Peer to Peer group for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year. Students will voluntarily meet 1-2 times per month during their lunch/recess to engage socially with students of varying abilities (including social/emotional/behavioral challenges) in 6th grade. This is an opportunity for your child to be a peer "model" and build rewarding friendships with other students. I presented this opportunity last week and we are looking for more students to apply! Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns!
INTRAMURAL SPORTS MONDAYS AFTER SCHOOL
Intramurals will run from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. directly after school on Mondays.
Intramurals are after-school sports for Novi Meadows 5th and 6th graders. Students compete against each other in a sport. There are no established teams, but rather the teams are determined at each session. We stress fair play, good sportsmanship, and teamwork...while having fun learning and playing games with our friends. Students should have appropriate shoes in order to participate.
Please see the attached documents for our FAQ and schedule.

How to Help Kids Process Tragic Events
Our world (near and far) have suffered constant setbacks over the past two years. To name a few, the pandemic, the tragedy in Oxford, and, currently, the crisis in Ukraine. It seems that every time we turn on the television, check social media, or read the news, we are being inundated with what’s happening around the world. These crises can inevitably impact our children and their growing minds. The article below has a wealth of resources to support you and your family.
This article, How to Help Kids Process Tragic Events, identifies how our children may be impacted, provides tips for talking about these difficult events, and outlines some practices that can help a child who is feeling anxious and overwhelmed with the events in our world.6th GRADE MATH TEST OUT INFORMATION

PTO READ-A-THON
PTO is running a Read-a-thon as our second fundraiser for the year and to encourage reading during March is Reading Month. Your contribution helps us to purchase materials for Classroom Enrichment, provide virtual or in-person Assemblies and Author Visits, fund Teacher Appreciation events, provide Community Outreach, host Family Nights, and much more. We only have 2 fundraisers each school year, and we are hoping to reach $15,000 this month. We are only 1/5 of the way to this goal and need your support!

ABSENT HOMEWORK
Novi Meadows Parents:
When students are absent, teachers will do their best to fill them in on the work they miss. Teachers utilize a variety of tools to keep students up to date on work (Schoology, Google Classroom, on-line planners, etc.). It is not feasible to have absent students Zoom into classes that are happening at school. In addition, teachers are not able to privately Zoom with students who are absent to reteach the lessons. Teachers will provide the work that can be replicated to students upon their return. It is not always possible to recreate classroom discussion or activities
NON BUS DAYS FOR BUS RIDERS
Novi has modified the busing process due to a driver shortage. There will be buses that do not run on a certain day of the week. The following list shows what busses will NOT run on what days:
Monday - busses B, E, G, X will not run
Tuesday - busses D, I, J, R, T will not run
Wednesday - busses H, K, N, W, Y will not run
Thursday - busses A, F, O, P, S will not run
Friday - busses L, Q, U, V will not run
On the day your bus does not run, parents/guardian's will be responsible for transportation to and from school.
PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION
For parents who want to make arrangements for after school CARE on the days their bus does not run, please contact Lori Croad at Lori.Croad@NoviK12.org or call 248-449-1257. Space is limited so act as soon as possible.

DROP OFF TIMES AND FLOW OF TRAFFIC
This year we have modified our drop off times for the beginning of the day to help with traffic and congestion on Taft Rd. We will be opening the doors to Meadows at 7:15am (School still starts at 7:30am).
Students who are taking a bus, parent drop off, or walkers will be able to enter the building at this time. Students will go to their respective cafeteria and wait until 7:20am. At that time they will be released to their classrooms.
If you are a parent who drives their students to or from school, please make sure to pull all the way up and around to Novi Woods to allow for the maximum number of cars along the sidewalk. In addition, if you are able to carpool, that might help to alleviate the large number of vehicles in the line.
In addition, please do not drop students off in the middle of the parking lot. This creates an unsafe situation for them and for other drivers who are trying to navigate a busy area. Please wait in the line and drop them off along the curb. They should always exit the vehicle on the right.
Parents of 6th graders who are dropping off students should be aware that buses will need to use the left lane and turn in front of the 6th grade house to access the loading area for students. Please do not block the driveway.
Thank you again for your patience as we focus on getting students to and from school safely.
Sincerely,
Principals Fenchel and Brickey
FOOD SERVICES
Breakfast will be grab and go and eaten in the classroom. Students will make their lunch selections in the morning with their teacher in the classroom. At lunch time students will use their ID badge to receive their individually packaged meal and check out with the cashier. Remember to add funds to your student's account through PowerSchool.
