Principal's Message

Hello Harper Parents/Guardians,

It is not every day that you walk away from work overwhelmed with incredible joy. For many of us, including myself, that day was yesterday! After school, I had the privilege of being apart of the “Community Gift Presentation” for Conrad and it was a memorable event. He is one of our crossing guards and a former paraprofessional at Harper. He is such a kind and caring man who loves his crossing guard job and interacting with students and families (even pets) each day. A few weeks ago, the community rallied to his aid by raising money to buy him a new car, after his car was totaled in an accident. Yesterday, in front of the school, students, parents, staff, and community members were able to honor Conrad and present him with his new car. It was one of the most heartfelt moments I have experienced and one that many of us will never forget. And it truly shows how amazing and kind the Wilmette community is!

We talk a lot about what it means to be a strong community and this event showcases what can happen when a community comes together. I am blown away by all of your generosity and support for Conrad. And to culminate it all, watching the students chant, “We love Conrad” will forever be ingrained in my memory. To the Harper Community and all those that donated - THANK YOU!

Cold Weather: Since winter has come early, it is time for some reminders to help you prepare appropriately. We try to have outdoor recess each day. For students to play in the snow, they must have jackets, boots, snow pants, hats, and gloves. We go outside unless the windchill temperature is under 5°F. In the mornings, students continue to wait outside unless the windchill temperature is under 10°F. Supervision in the morning does not start until 8:20am so try not to drop your child off early. Also, please drive safely around Harper including staying off your cell phone and driving slowly while in front of the school. Students’ safety is all of our responsibilities.

Have a great weekend,

Donate now to iGNITE! and help your children have a fun-filled year of enrichment opportunities! The suggested donation of $125.00 per child (tax-deductible) enables iGNITE the opportunity to bring in speakers, scientists, and programs along with taking children on field trips. In addition, this pays for our amazing crossing guards that keep your kids safe and secure! We ask that you donate early so we can begin these programs at the beginning of the year! Thank you so much to those of you who have already donated to iGNITE! We are currently at 60% (250 students) participation. If you have not donated, it is not too late. There are 2 ways to donate:
1. Click on link: http://harperpto.com/ignite-donation/
2. Drop off a check in the iGNITE! Folder in the Harper Lobby. Please make the check payable to Harper PTO and include your child's name on the check.
