New Turf on the Playground

Does anyone else remember the pretty mud pit, soggy shoes, and dirty footprints across the building? That is no longer! The playground now includes a beautiful turf field. It is already getting a lot of love from our recess soccer players. More playground improvements to come.

Elementary Cross Country

We are happy to announce that Leland is again going to have a cross country running program that includes 3rd-5th grades. This is a great way to stay active and have fun! Practices begin this week on Friday, September 9th and will be every Tuesday and Friday from 3:30 – 4:45 pm until mid October. Students will practice outside near the school or at Nedow’s Bay/ Bartholomew Park.

Leland Educational Foundation Annual Fundraiser

Join LEF for an evening of music, food, drinks, and fundraising for LPS at the beautiful Aurora Cellars Estate. This fun event is a great way to meet other parents and learn more about the great things Leland Educational Foundation does for LPS.


LPS staff and teachers receive a complimentary ticket with code TEACHERLOVE at checkout.

6th & 7th Graders Go to Camp Henry

We are very excited to go to overnight camp this Fall! This will be a new experience for many. We are fortunate to spend two days at Camp Henry on the shores of Lake Kimball outside of Newaygo, Michigan. The scheduled dates for our trip are Tuesday, September 20 and Wednesday, September 21. Sixth and Seventh grade students will experience team-building and challenging activities. We will depart LPS at 8:30 AM on Tuesday, September 20. We will return to school on Wednesday, September 21 at approximately 2:45 PM. A permission slip and camper packing list are attached to this letter.

Vaccine Clinic Held at LPS

Our Vaccine Clinic will be held on October 10th from 3-6pm. The BLDHD will offer all vaccines(childhood 0-18), including Flu vaccine, and all teachers/staff/and students will be eligible. Appointments will be needed, as no walk-ins will be available. Autumn will be sending out promotional materials for parents in the next couple of weeks. This is a great opportunity for our LPS community and we are really looking forward to it

Save the Date: Leland Athletics Golf Scramble - Sunday, October 2nd, 2022

Calling all golfers! Please save the date for the morning of Sunday, October 2nd, 2022. This fundraiser will be held at Leland Country Club for the girls and boys soccer & golf teams. This scramble is an LPS tradition you can’t miss. If you are not a golfer, there will be other ways to support our athletes through donations and hole sponsorships for businesses and individuals. This event helps raise money for equipment, uniforms, tournaments fees, and travel.Please be on the lookout for further information in coming weeks! **Important Change In Schedule

A change was made to the Leland Public School Academic Calendar. Students will not have school on Tuesday, November 1st rather than Monday, November 7th for Teacher In-Service.

Tiny Tappers

Tiny Tappers 4-H Club (second offering) will be held this fall at Leland Public School with our wonderful 4-H leader Robin Carden! For all cloverbuds (*ages 5-7 as of January 1st, 2023*), and meeting on six Wednesdays, September 7th through October 12th, from 3:30-4:00 pm in Mr. Evans' room. To register for this free club, please contact Leelanau County 4-H Program Coordinator Rosali Collier at collierr@msu.edu or by calling our MSU Extension office at 256-9888. Once our 8 spots are filled, we will add people to a waitlist. Families will register youth in 4HOnline after it re-opens for the new 4-H year starting on September 12th. The only thing needed for the club will be tap shoes!
