Many Ways to Give
As our families prepare to celebrate their holiday traditions, it is a good time remember that there are a number of folks living in Pacific Grove and our surrounding area who are in need.
Forest Grove Elementary is continuing our tradition this year of doing our best to help those families who have fallen on hard times. We have two very easy ways to give:
Bring non-perishable food items and place them in our front office barrels for the Monterey County Food Bank.
Bring an unwrapped toy to the front office to support the Kiwanis Club’s toy drive for 2018.
These are two ways to have an immediate impact and help make the holidays special for local families.
Finally, another outstanding group to support is our Parent Teacher Association. Please consider making a donation as part of our Forest Grove Read-a-Thon, titled “Open a Book and Start Your Adventure.”
We have made donating easy by setting up online accounts for each one of our students. If you have questions about how to donate or how to log in to your student’s account, please contact first grade teacher Hetal Patel at hpatel@pgusd.org .
On behalf of everyone at Forest Grove, we wish you the happiest of holiday seasons.
Sincerely,
Buck Roggeman, Principal.
Our annual Winter Concert will be from 6:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 11 for grades TK-2nd and Wednesday, December 12 for 3rd-5th grades.
Come celebrate with us at the Pacific Grove Middle School Performing Arts Center.
Teachers will be sending out more information regarding where and when to meet and pick up your child.
Are You Taking a Trip?
Forest Grove's Winter Break will be from
12:10 pm on Friday, December 21- Monday, January 7th.
If you are planning a trip that will take your child out of school, please remember that you can apply for up to 10 Justifiable Absence days with the principal. Click here to access the form and have it turned in at least 2 weeks prior to the date(s) of absence. If approved, your child's absences will not count as "unexcused" absences and will then not count towards truancy.
Happy and safe travels!
Read-A-Thon
Our Read-a-thon has officially started! Be sure to create your child's Read-a-thon profile and start logging "reading sessions" starting Wednesday, November 28 - Sunday, December 9th.
Our goal is to encourage your child's love of reading while raising funds for our school by sharing their profile with family and friends.
Wednesday, December 5th: Students can grab a book and read at lunch
Friday, December 7th: School-wide reading session on 3rd level from 9:55-10:15.
If you are available to help with a dance party on December 7th from 12:20-12:55? If so, please let Mrs. Patel know ASAP!
Please let Mrs. Patel know if you have any questions. You can email her at hpatel@pgusd.org. Thank you for your support in making this a successful Read-a-thon!
Give a Toy, Spread the Joy
Before the kids get too involved with their holiday wish lists, help them remember that this is the season of giving. Forest Grove offers a couple ways to get involved, give back, and help make this holiday season a little brighter for others.
Families can donate a new, unwrapped toy and bring a smile to a child. Our Pacific Grove Kiwanis Club has a barrel for toy donations in the front office.
Families did an amazing job bringing in canned food donations during the Thanksgiving holiday. We do still have the barrels here for the month of December as well for continued food donations.
Need Holiday Gift Ideas?
Where do the Lost and Found donations go?
Four times a year the lost and found gets cleared out of unclaimed clothing and other items. We donate to the Sun Street Centers who provide the most comprehensive and effective alcohol and drug abuse prevention, intervention, education, treatment and recovery services in Monterey and San Benito Counties. Our donations of many jackets and sweatshirts help these families and children in their program.
Want to be a Chaperone or a Volunteer?
We love to have parents help out at school and join us on our field trips. Before you go, make sure you have been fingerprinted through the District office. It is district policy that all parent volunteers be fingerprinted and cleared before working in the room or chaperoning a trip. Pick up a packet in the office or click here.
Contact Angela Lippert or Kimberly Ortiz at the District Office for more information.
