Counseling Update
Grade 9: School counselors will be presenting to all 9th grade students in their English classes on how to Prepare for Success as a high school student during the first week of October. The presentation will be available to view at the end of the week in the college and career updates for those that missed it.
Grades 10/11: The PSAT is coming soon! This test is for 10th and 11th grade students. It will take place on Wednesday October 12th at 8am in the MP room. The cost is $20, students/parents can pay cash or check in the front office.
Why should I/my student take this exam?
Not only is it great practice for an SAT or ACT, additionally the PSAT provide students with the following:
- Connects students to more than $300 million in scholarships, including the National Merit® Scholarship Program.
- Test takers can receive a personalized study plan by linking their results to Khan Academy to create a customized study plan to improve areas of weakness.
- Provides information on AP courses the student is ready for.
Grade 12: Please see the flyer below for information about college application workshops offered on Fridays in October and November.
Intersted in Scholarships? See the link to 22-23 Scholarship Information.
We have an event for seniors coming up on 10/27 called Cash 4 College. This is a workshop to support students/families with completing the FAFSA.
All BCCA Students: We also encourage students/families to attend the upcoming College and Trades School Fair on October 11 which will be held at Will C. Wood High School. This is an event for all VUSD students and we will have a sign in sheet. BCCA students who attend will be entered into a drawing to win a gift card!

If you need a quiet place to study, get some extra academic support, learn some study habits, use a Chromebook and gain some confidence, you are cordially invited to come to Coach’s Corner on Tuesdays from 3:45-5:00pm. This week, Coach's Corner will take place in room 16 and additional math support will be available. Typically it is in room 8. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Threets.

Parent Portal & Aeries Gradebook
We still have several families who have not yet logged into Parent Portal. This is very important process that all parents need to complete as soon as possible. We want parents to be able to view their student's current grades, missing assignments and other information such as attendance records. Our office staff are available to help you with this process if needed. Below are some links to information about how to access the Parent Portal:

Child Nutrition Update
Students continue have access to free breakfast and lunch every day. Meal service will take place in the MPR once again starting this week. The kitchen will hopefully open before the end of the month, as we are in the final stages of inspections at this time. For now, the meal service offered will continue as it has been since the start of the school year.
Senior Trip Update
Hello Seniors and Families of Seniors,
We have secured one bus for the Senior Disney Trip! Our seniors are going to Disneyland! Yippee!
There are a few seniors on the waiting list to go on the trip :/ I know that plans change so we will keep them on the waiting list and see if there are changes to the people confirmed to go. In the meantime, for those who are on the payment plan, please continue to pay down your balance. Balances are to be paid in full by March, 2023.
If there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me or Ms. Washino. Thanks again for working with us to get our seniors to Disneyland!

BUCKINGHAM SHIELD
The Buckingham SHIELD is our parent advisory group. Participation in this group will allow you to serve our students and staff and have a direct impact on the quality of your student's educational experience. SHIELD is also the place to share your great ideas, talk with our admin team, ask questions, and learn up-to-date information about what is happening on campus. Agendas and guest speakers are typically shared in advance via text/email and/or the SHIELD Facebook page. One of our main tasks is fundraising events to provide funds for student activities, scholarships, teacher grants and other school related projects.
The SHIELD parent group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM. Our next meeting will be a potluck and it will be held in person in the Buckingham Multi Purpose Room on Tuesday October 18th. Everyone is invited to attend.
