SG R-II Family Connection
Parents & Guardians
Happy holidays, SG R-II Family!
This month has been a blur for me and, as I have discovered through many conversations, for many families, too. There are so many emotions swirling around in my head and my heart as I write my last Christmas letter to our SG Family. I have spent my career here at SG R-II, in a variety of roles, from working as a student, to teaching, coaching and leading. Through that time, I have formed relationships with your children and with so many of you. Please know that you have my heartfelt thank you for making my experiences at SG R-II special and memorable.
While the few weeks leading up to the holidays are always hectic, they are filled with light and joy, and seem to me to be the brightest time in our schools. I hope that your children have enjoyed the holiday spirit that we have seen fostered throughout our buildings! From visits with Santa, to creating Gingerbread Houses and holiday videos, we have enjoyed seeing our schools so full of cheer!
I hope that you all enjoy the break, find some time to relax, hold your favorite traditions with family and friends, and make new memories.
From My Family to Yours, have a very Merry Christmas and a safe, joyful Happy New Year.
Always a Dragon,
Dr. Julie Flieg
Superintendent
Prop SG Updates
We are excited to share with you an update on our Prop SG projects! Over the past few months, the district’s architectural firm, KRJ Architects, and the district’s Construction Manager At-Risk (CMAR), Brockmiller, Inc., have been working with district administrators to design and refine the various building projects encompassed within Prop SG. Depending upon the project area, building administrators and secretaries, as well as coaches, have been consulted regarding layout and details. The district plans to bid the various projects sequentially, as plans solidify for each building.
Bloomsdale Elementary:
- The first of our Prop SG projects will be the new secure entrance and reconfigured offices at Bloomsdale Elementary. This project was included under the Safety and Security priority under Prop SG, as it will provide a multi-gated entryway with better line of sight for staff and visitors. We are excited to share the most up-to-date building plans for this project, as well as a preliminary timeline:
- You can view the building plans for the new secure entrance and reconfigured offices here. Of course, these plans are subject to change as we approach construction or as we need to make adjustments mid-project.
- The district will put the Bloomsdale Elementary package out for bid beginning on Jan. 5, and bids will be due on Jan. 19, 2023. At this time, we anticipate breaking ground at Bloomsdale Elementary in late March or early April. It is our hope to have the Bloomsdale Elementary project complete by the beginning of August 2023. We will keep you informed of progress throughout the construction.
- District and building administration and office staff are creating a plan for the office relocation during construction in the spring, and these plans will be shared with employees and families when appropriate.
Other Project Areas:
- Design plans for the Ste. Genevieve Middle School elevator are moving along and are anticipated to be finalized soon.
- Planning for the new Early Childhood Center has been on hold for the past few months as we have been focused on the land on which to build the facility. Be on the lookout for an exciting update soon!
- Design plans for the remaining project areas are making headway, but require further planning and design work. For a refresher on all of the projects encompassed within Prop SG, please visit bit.ly/PropSG.
What’s Coming Up:
- In January, we will share an updated Prop SG webpage as various project design plans, updated cost estimates and timelines become more solidified. We will inform staff and families as the website is updated.
- The district’s architectural firm, KRJ Architects, and the district’s Construction Manager At-Risk (CMAR), Brockmiller, Inc., will attend the Jan. 17, 2023, Board of Education Regular Meeting to provide a report on progress.
Community Resources — Do You Know Someone in Need?
Throughout the year, our SG family checks in on one another and strives to help our students, family and staff in need. This time of year can be especially hard for some of our families and community members. Outside of our fundraising and donation programming, we wanted to also share a few community resources for families, which include information on items such as assistance with housing, childcare, clothing, food, transportation, utilities, mental health, employment, education and more:
Families, please remember that our schools have personal and hygiene products, as well as clothing and other essential items for students in need. Please reach out to your school’s counselor or our social worker, Stephanie Gegg at sgegg@sgdragons.org or 573-883-4500 ext 2980.

Help Map the Broadband Gap
Missouri’s Office of Broadband Development wants to connect all Missourians to reliable high-speed internet – but they need our help! Go to the FCC National Broadband Map to check the location and services for your home to ensure that they are correct. If this information is listed incorrectly on the map, you can file a challenge. Any address that is currently incorrectly shown as served that can be corrected prior to Jan. 13 will garner additional federal funding to increase broadband coverage in the State of Missouri.
If your home is being shown as served but does not have internet access, you can challenge the coverage by clicking on your home in the map. Please see this flyer for more information.
Don’t wait – the deadline is Jan. 13, 2023! Please feel free to share this information with friends and family.
