Welcome to the Prairie Family Baby Rusenas
Congratulations to Mr. Rusenas who welcomed a baby girl, Lula Grace Rusenas, last week. Mom, Dad and baby girl are all doing well!
Peer Buddies Club for 4th and 5th Graders Beginning Monday, November 1st
The Prairie Peer Buddies Club is a group that meets after school every Monday from 2:30-3:15 to participate in games, crafts, activities and more with peers across the building.
Students in 4th and 5th grade are welcome to join this free club. The club is an opportunity for students to be positive peer role models and foster friendships with our students within the Multi-Needs program. Through fun filled activities, students will work on communication, problem solving, social communication and more. At Peer Buddies Club we promote Kindness, Acceptance and Inclusion.
If your child is interested in participating, please have them ask their teacher for an information flyer and permission slip. Students who choose to participate will have an informational meeting the week of October 25th during their recess period.
Students will be supervised by Ms. Kurtides and Mrs. Alberts and other Prairie staff. Please reach out with any questions.
District Reminders
DISTRICT 203 MASK POLICY
As a reminder, all students and visitors must wear a face mask upon entering the building. Thank you for your adherence to this policy.
Public health guidance no longer allows for a letter of alternative diagnosis (examples: viral illness, strep throat, or gastroenteritis/stomach flu) as COVID-19 can be present with these illnesses. Testing of all symptomatic individuals is recommended.
The Illinois Department of Health requires schools to exclude students exhibiting COVID-like symptoms until one of the following criteria are met:
- Your student isolates for 10 calendar days from the onset of symptoms. After 10 days, students may return if they are fever-free for 24 hours without medication and have no symptoms.
OR
- Your student receives a negative RT-PCR or NAAT COVID-19 test or a negative Rapid RT-PCR COVID-19 test. Rapid antigen and home tests are notaccepted; contact the health office if you have testing questions.
Students in the same household as symptomatic students will be allowed to remain in school if the symptomatic individual is tested within 24 hours after they began feeling ill. Please provide the health office documentation (receipt, portal picture, discharge paperwork) with documentation that the ill student was tested within 24 hours. Household members can remain in school while the test is pending. If testing documentation is not provided within one full school day of symptoms onset, other non-vaccinated household students must stay home. If the sick student has loss of taste or smell or is a highly probable COVID case, other non-vaccinated household members will need to stay home.
In addition, runny nose/nasal congestion/sneezing by itself is no longer considered to be a symptom for quarantine per the Illinois Department of Public Health. However, if it is present with another symptom, the student should be sent/kept home.
We thank you for your cooperation in keeping Prairie students and staff healthy in these ever-changing times.
ATTENDANCE LINE
District 203 asks that all parents call their school’s attendance line to report absences. While it is okay to also notify your child’s teacher of the absence, we still need you to call the attendance line, as your child’s teacher could have a substitute or there could be a substitute in the health office. The attendance line is available to take messages 24 hours a day / 7 days per week and is the same number as the health office. Please call 630-420-6350 to report absences.
Please contact Megan Pagnucci at prairieschoolvp@gmail.com with any questions about or submissions to the WAAG. Deadline for submissions are Wednesdays by noon, for posting in the following week's WAAG.
