Extra Points : Coach Pomazak's Message
I hope this message finds your family in good health and enjoying the holiday. I always find Thanksgiving to be energizing. The hustle and bustle of preparing for the holiday feast remind me of the prep for a big game. The actual day is a great opportunity to catch up with family and of course football! It is one of the few times, I truly feel like I can take some time off and relax. Of course, there is the other side of the coin, and that is the culmination of the IHSA football season with the crowing of the 1-7A state championships. I remember in high school being glued to my television every Friday and Saturday of Championship weekend, watching each game. As a coach, my infatuation with the state championship has not changed much. Early on in my head coaching career, I would go to the state championship games for what I termed research and development. I am a firm believer in the power of vision and belief. I wanted to immerse myself in the game so that when our program made it there, I could prepare them to the best of my abilities. I paid close attention to how the wind would swirl. I wanted to experience the sound of the fans in a bigger stadium. I wanted to observe the moments in between the snaps and how communication was executed. The bottom line, I wanted us to be ready. By the grace of all that is good, we were able to get to the big game. From that day forward, it has been my personal mission to get our program back into the state championship and come home with the big trophy. Boy or boy did we come close this year. So close we could taste it. This group had that ability, I firmly believe that. Unfortunately, fate was not in our favor, but I do believe this group has done something amazing. This group proved that 2018 was not an anomaly, it was not a fluke! This group proved that we can play state championship-caliber football. I believe that this group will be the reason we win a state championship in the next 3 years. I am beyond excited to jump back into the frying pan and bring our 2023 campaign. Championships are not won in the off-season but the mindset and character to be a champion is! Brick by brick and day by day!
All the best
Coach Pomazak
