The Roy B. Kelley musical, 101 Dalmatians Kids, is well underway. We cannot wait for you to see these students perform on stage. Our show is set for March 23 and 24 at the Palace Theatre in Lockport, NY. Thursday we will have two shows, 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM. All students at Roy B. Kelley will go to the 10:00 AM show as a field trip. Friday our show will be at 7:00 PM. Tickets will go on sale at Roy B. Kelley on March 6th. Look for a ticket order form to come home with your child that day. Also, we will be selling dalmatian merchandise to help fund the show. Look for that information to come home soon as well. Please consider helping out at the Winter Festival. The PTA is requesting help during the festival as well as baskets or gift cards to raffle off to raise money. Irish Dancers will be performing in the bym at 6 p.m. Come and check out this group! Thank you Mrs. Waddell for coordinating.

We are excited for you to attend the RBK Winter Family Night, Friday, March 10th (5:30-7:30p). Be sure to be there at 6pm to see a special performance by Irish Dancers, including an audience participation portion. Activities will include games, face painting, craft, snacks and a raffle. Spring Picture Day is Tuesday, March 21st! If you wish to have your child's picture taken for a photo package, please order online, or return the envelope provided with your student on picture day. Please alert your child's teacher that you wish for them to have their photo taken, to make sure they participate.

The RBK PTA brought the the show, "Black History's Groundbreaking Geniuses" to visit in Febuary to celebrate the importance of African American Culture and History Month. The students enjoyed an inter-active play where they were introduced to famous people such as Ralph Ellison, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mae Jemison. Below are some pictures of the show. Also, a huge thank you to Mr. Haynie for sharing his heritage on the video announcements!

March is Women’s History Month—the perfect time for your child to read a biography of a famous woman. To find a biography your child will enjoy, talk about interests. If your child likes:

· Sports, consider reading about Wilma Rudolph, a three-time Olympic gold medal winner.

· Politics, read about Victoria Woodhull, who in 1870 became the first woman to run for president. Or, look for a book about Sandra Day O’Connor, the first woman appointed to the United States Supreme Court.

· Fashion, find a biography about Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who was considered a cultural and fashion icon in the 1960s.

· Science, read about Marie Curie, the only person to win a Nobel Prize in two different sciences—chemistry and physics.

· Helping others, learn more about Mother Teresa, who dedicated her life to serving the poor and disadvantaged.

· Space, read about Sally Ride who was the first American woman in space. Upon her return, she dedicated her life to helping girls excel in STEM fields.

Read the book together or let your child read it independently, but don’t stop there. Encourage your child to do some additional research on the person online.
