Mrs. Leco's Giving Trees
Who was Mrs. Leco?
Mrs. Leco was a long time 3rd grade teacher at Martin School who dedicated her life to teaching the children of North Attleboro. She not only taught them academics but she made sure to instill kindness, empathy and generosity in her students. Each year, Mrs. Leco created a sense of family within her classroom and made sure that each child who stepped into her room was loved, cared for and listened to. Mrs. Leco passed away November 30, 2019 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Her spirit and devotion to students lives on in the hearts of those who loved her and in the halls of the place she called her second home, Martin School.
What are The Giving Trees?
Each year Mrs. Leco would invite her 3rd graders and their families to send in new socks during the month of December. Socks are the number one item requested by shelters and organizations that assist families in need. As the sock donations came in, Mrs. Leco would display them in her classroom until it was time to deliver them to the town nurse. The socks would be given out to families of North Attleboro who were in need. After Mrs. Leco was no longer able to head the project she loved so much, her daughter, Mrs. Curran, (also a 3rd grade teacher at Martin!) carried on the tradition. In 2019, it was opened up to all of the families in Martin School and not only were socks collected but also mittens and gloves. If there were 2 things Mrs. Leco loved so much, it was showing kindness to others and her Martin School family.
In honor and memory of Mrs. Leco, please consider donating a pair of new socks, gloves or mittens to “Mrs. Leco’s Giving Trees”. They will be located in the main hallway of Martin School in the reading corner.
In a year that has been so difficult for so many, let’s come together in compassion, kindness and warmth.
Donations can be sent in with your child or dropped off at Martin School starting Monday November 27- Friday December 8th.
Bundle up!
Is getting your child to wear a coat a challenge? Let us know! We’re happy to support you and work with your child to make this happen.
