Father’s Day Stall and BBQ
Yesterday our wonderful P&C held the annual Father’s Day Stall and it was sellout with only 2 gifts remaining at the end of the day. A lot of work goes into preparing a stall like that and I’d like to thank all our dedicated parents who helped to organise it. Whether you wrapped gifts or helped run it on the day, your contributions are all very valuable and don’t go unnoticed.
Today our P&C held our first Father’s Day Breakfast and, despite the weather, it was great to see all the dads who came along to enjoy a sausage on a roll with their children and have a chat with everyone. I’d like to thank you all for your strong show of support and again, a huge thanks goes to the P&C for organising such a great morning. In particular, I’d like to thank Steve Bragg, Sarah Monahas, Danielle Pretty, Karen Messenger & Mr Brendan Murphy for giving up their time to cook and serve the BBQ.
Overall, it was a wonderful event that brought the community together to show the dads and the father figures in our lives that we appreciate them. Happy Father’s Day to you all!
Congratulations to our Aspiring Leaders – Brendan Murphy & Tina Fahey Relieving Assistant Principals
Mr Peter Merrick is on leave until Week 3 of Term 4 and I am very pleased to announce Mr Brendan Murphy and Ms Tina Fahey are undertaking the role of Relieving Assistant Principal in his absence. Mr Murphy and Ms Fahey demonstrate excellent leadership every day in the numerous roles they undertake here at Banksmeadow PS and I know they are more than capable of fulfilling this executive role. I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge their efforts and congratulate them both in earning this opportunity to help lead the school.
Special Ed Unit Update (Repeat Item)
The Department of Education approached our school earlier in the year to see if we would be willing to accept two more support classes to complement K/6W and establish a special education unit at Banksmeadow PS. Following consultation with Mrs Cathy Lucantonio, staff and our P&C, it was decided to go ahead with the proposal and we will establish two more special education classes beginning in 2016. In preparation for our new classes, we will require two new classrooms, upgrades to school fencing, employment of new staff and some additional staff training. This is a very exciting time for our wonderful school and I will keep you up to date throughout the development of the process.
New Report Template (Repeat Item)
As part of our Student Reporting Project, a trial student report template was presented at our P&C meeting last week and was received very positively by those in attendance. Following consultation this term with staff and parents at P&C, we have developed a new report format that aims at being more informative for parents. To begin with, we have changed the language of achievement from “Limited, Basic, Sound, High & Outstanding” to “Limited Achievement, Working Towards, Expected Level, Working Above & Working Beyond.” We have also isolated content from each subject area and provided a more individualised record of assessment using less teacher jargon. The result is a report that reflects the learning and achievement of each child in a more holistic, personalised and precise way, as well as being more reader-friendly. You will receive your child’s report in Term 4 using this draft report template and we will be providing opportunities for feedback as we strive to provide you, our parents, with a way of reporting student achievement and progress that is of the highest quality. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Enjoy the rest of your week :)

BOOK CHARACTER PARADE AND BOOK FAIR
I would like to say a big thank you to all the children who dressed up for Banksmeadow’s Book Character Parade and also to their families who helped them. I was really impressed with the beautiful and amazing costumes and how creative some of you are. You helped make it a very enjoyable day.
The Book Fair was also a great success. I am really appreciative for the community support given to this event. The school gets a percentage of all money collected to spend on books for the library and with this money I have been able to purchase about 30 books.
The donation table was also very successful. We started with 70 books and 61 of them were donated which is just wonderful. If you don’t find your name on the thank you list below, I apologise in advance and if you let me know I will put it in the next newsletter.

Dance Fever
The whole school show dance is looking amazing! Students will need to wear black for the school show dance but are not allowed to change in the toilets for security reasons. If students are not wearing black in the partner dances, please either wear black clothes under your outfit or bring it along in a bag and put the black clothing over your other outfit. We are looking forward to a great night and hope we can bring home some ribbons and trophies!
Parents of students in Years K- 2 are invited to the final Dance Fever lesson on Monday September 14th. Kindergarten will be from 1.50pm with Year 1 and Year 2 are at 2:20pm. Please come along and enjoy some amazing dancing!
Kindergarten Orientation
If any families know anyone who may still be going to enrol, please encourage them to contact the school soon. Children starting school have a much better transition, if they have had opportunities to visit the school prior to attending next year.
