Family Edition, February 2

Message from Principal H

Dear Ida B Wells Families,

Last week the Oregon Department of Education released the four-year graduation rate for the Class of 2022. We knew last year that our Class of 2022 set a new standard for what it means to be an Ida B. Wells graduate. Our students earned more than $3.5 million in scholarships and were accepted to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Howard, and West Point just to name a few. Last week we also learned that our Class of 2022 registered the highest graduation rate in the city and in the history of the school. Nearly 96% of our students graduated on time! This is a huge achievement. Congratulations to our families and staff for supporting our young people toward success. Most of all, congratulations to our students for exhibiting resilience and commitment during their four years of high school.

Claim Your Seat on the Booster Board

The Booster Board has some vacancies for next year, including VP and Treasurer (see brief descriptions below). We’d like to find some interested folks and start training them this Spring. Freshman parents welcome! This is a great way to get involved and support all the clubs and teams at IBW. Want to know more? Please email info@ibwboosterclub.org.

Vice President (or President)

We're looking for someone, with several years ahead at IBW, who is willing to ascend to the President position for the 2024-25 school year. Alternatively, you could begin as President in Fall of 2023 and the current President would step down to VP in support. Vice President currently pre-screens funding requests and communicates with those making requests, helps draft bulletin content, steps in and supports the President during periods of unavailability. Generally, the VP commitment is one-to-two hours weekly plus the monthly meetings.

Treasurer

Our Treasurer not only acts as the primary checkwriter for grant funding, they also reconcile accounts, maintain cash banks for concessions, track messages from folks in concessions, prepares monthly reports for membership, reimburses expenses incurred by others on behalf of Boosters and either prepares tax returns or works with a reputable vendor to do so. Also responsible for checking the Boosters P.O. box at Multnomah USPS station and the mailbox in the IBW school main office.
