Picture Yourself Growing in First Grade
Whew! We made it!
We made it through our first week of school! We had a great time getting to know each other and creating our community of learners and friends. We start every morning with a morning meeting. We focus on greeting each other, reviewing the calendar and daily schedule, a quick share, and participating in a short energizer or activity. It is a great way to start the day on a positive note with every child feeling welcome and included. We have quickly learned names and faces, and this allows us to begin building positive relationships! Some of our favorite greetings are the speed greeting and aloha greeting. Ask your child about our energizers hands up and people to people!
Our first week was filled with exciting new special classes, exploring numbers and new math materials, new craft projects, assessments, and an introduction to our favorite time of day, READING WORKSHOP! I am looking forward to continue to build on our success from the first week as we dive into our subject areas.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION - SNACK AND LUNCH
Also if your child plans to buy lunch, please review the lunch menu with your child before they get to school. You can send in a little note with your child about what they would like to buy. It will help make our mornings run a little more smoothly. Thanks in advance for your help with this!
Meet Ms. Gross
Hello parents of students in Mrs. Seymour's first grade class! My name is Cecilia Gross and I will be student teaching with Kristin Seymour for the first few weeks of school. I am a graduate of Rutgers Camden and graduated from Cherokee High School in 2012. I live in Marlton with my family and adore my three younger brothers! I have taught preschool at Kindercare this past summer and I can't wait to continue to learn and grow along with your children here at Tatem!
I look forward to meeting you all at back to school night,
Cecilia Gross
"It's All Good!"
In class this week, we spent a lot of time learning new routines and discussing our expectations for First Grade. We want to ensure every student has a safe and comfortable place to do his or her best learning. As a class, we decided to adopt the school rules as our class rules as well. Our classroom rules for 2016-2017 are:
1. Take Care of Yourself
2. Take Care of Each Other
3. Take Care of Our School
We were able to take each rule and discuss what each one would look like in our classroom. We read our favorite book, Pete the Cat. He has the best message... just keep rocking because it is all good!
In addition to discussing our rules and expectations, we began to discuss what being a student means. Talking about what a student looks like, sounds like, and does has helped our friends make the transition into being first graders. Being a student is a BIG job, and we are off on the right foot! One of the key aspects of being a student is having the ability to be flexible. Teaching flexibility is a key social skill that allows students to continue making progress forward even if a hiccup may arise.
Like Pete the Cat says, "It's All Good!"
