August Family Newsletter
We Can't Wait to See You!
Welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year!
Dear Marthasville Students and Families,
Summer is quickly coming to an end and our fantastic custodial staff have been hard at work cleaning the building and campus. We are all ecstatic to get the new school year rolling! This year our theme is "Hearts and Minds Grow Here". Our staff is truly looking forward to not only continuing to grow strong relationships with our students and families, but also creating new memories together while we learn and create.
Supply Lists
You will find the link to our school supply list here:
Open House
Thursday, August 19th, from 5:00-7:00
Come meet your child's teacher, drop off supplies, take a tour of the school, and visit some of our fun booths. We will have PTG, 4H, Scouts and Girl Scouts, a photo booth with our Specials teachers, and Wash Mo Sno! Warren County Sherriff's Department will be greeting and handing out maps with the Marthasville Ambulance District as well. After your visit your classroom FIRST, teachers will hand out a checklist and you will be free to tour and visit the booths. Turn in your booth checklist for a chance to win a PRIZE for your family!!
Please park in any of the parking lots around the building. You may enter through the front doors on either side of the gym.
To alleviate large crowds and full parking lots, we are asking families (if possible) to please follow your OLDEST or ONLY child's last name (if possible) during these 1 hour time slots:
A-M 5:00-6:00
N-Z 6:00-7:00
*As of today, Face Covers are still OPTIONAL!
Teachers will be also be posting Welcome Back information and documents prior to the first day of class, in their google classroom. Information about how to access your child's google classroom will be sent later.
Teacher Assignments
Teacher assignments should be viewable through Parent Portal on 8/13.
I will send out a text and email blast, as well as a Facebook Live when teacher names are viewable! I will not be able to make changes to rosters unfortunately.
Comprehensive Return to School Plan
You can find the full SDOW Comprehensive Return to School Plan by downloading the PDF version attached below or visit the SDOW website.
Keeping Our Building and Classrooms Clean and Sanitized
Our custodians and staff will continue to keep our school and classrooms clean and sanitized.
Health and Sickness Plans
Nurse Annie will follow district protocol and health guidelines to isolate and care for individuals until it has been determined if this is a Covid related illness or something else. If you believe your child has been exposed or is showing symptoms, please call school to speak to Nurse Annie and she can give you guidance. Nurse Annie arrives at 7:30 every day.
Breakfast, Lunch, and Recess
1st-6th grade students will eat a grab-n-go breakfast in their classrooms. Kindergarten students will eat in the cafeteria. Students will eat lunch in the cafeteria, following socially distancing protocols as we did at the end of the year. Each classroom will have assigned tables and seats, so we will be able to contract trace if needed. We have also allotted time and safety measures after lunch to continue to have recess while still social distancing. Classes will rotate through different parts of the playground, blacktop, and/or field each day. This will still give our students an opportunity to get fresh air and exercise. Marthasville support staff, the counselor, and myself will supervise lunch and recess shifts.
Instruction
Teachers will again be using Google Classroom to house assignments and activities. If a student is quarantined due to confirmed exposure, they will be able to Zoom in for daily lessons (or watch recorded lessons) that will be housed in Google Classroom.
Water Bottle Fillers Stations
Water bottle fillers will again be used for students to fill up their own water bottles. Please send a labeled water bottle with your child each day. We do not have extra water bottles and will not always have extra cups.
Communication
Links for the district and school calendar can be found below. A calendar of events will be included in the monthly newsletter as well. Please refer to the main calendar throughout the year for more information. We will again utilize Remind 101 for our building wide communication tool. Teachers will have their own code to join their classroom. Our goal is to have 100% of our families join Remind 101 so they can stay in the loop with happenings and news from the classrooms! Information about joining your child's Remind 101 class will be sent out soon!
First Day of Excellence- August 23, 2021 7:45-2:45
Our doors open at 7:20 a.m. and learning begins at 7:45 a.m. We dismiss at 2:45 p.m.
Transportation and Routines
I need EVERY (1 per household) to take the Afternoon Transportation Survey before August 19th so I can plan the safest and smoothest transition for all students at the end of the day. If I don't get a survey from your family, you will hear from me on the 20th, so we can plan accordingly. I already have over 80 families as of today (need about 70 more!).

Morning Routine
Car Riders- Follow the arrows into the upper parking lot and drop off your students at the main vestibule entrance doors. You will see Mrs. Daffron and Mrs. Busekrus greeting. We ask that you do not exit the parking lot via the bus lane-please follow the arrows through the lower parking lot and exit there. Make sure your child(ren) are ready to exit the vehicle so we can keep the car rider line moving quickly. If you need to help them get out, please park in a spot and walk them over to the steps. We ask that you do not allow students to run across the driving lane.
Bus Riders, Walkers, Biker Riders- Students riding the bus will exit and walk to the Gym Lobby doors.
Please talk through this entrance procedure with your child prior to the first day of school. Students will not be able to enter the building before 7:20 a.m. and we ask that they not arrive any sooner than 7:15. We appreciate your cooperation and support!
Afternoon Routine
Please follow the arrows when entering and exiting the parking lots during student dismissal. It is not safe for vehicles to use the bus lane while students are loading and unloading. Please do not use the bus lanes when exiting the lot. Students will be dismissed at 2:45 p.m. We will release Car Riders to the Gym first. Bus Riders and Walker/Bike Riders will be announced shorty after. If you are picking up students after school, the line will start at the gym door labeled A3. You will be asked for student name(s). We will send out your student(s) through the door labeled A2. Please watch for children as you are leaving the parking lot.
Students must be picked up no later than 3:00 p.m. If your child will be going home a different than their normal routine, please let the OFFICE know by 2:00. We understand emergenics happen, however, so we appreciate the communication as soon as you know there will be a change. Also, please do not allow your child to communicate with you via cellphone. There have been many times we have caught students using their cellphones to call home. This goes against district policy for cellphone use during the school day.
Bus Riders- K and 1st students will NOT be let off the bus unless someone is there to get them. This is a bus garage policy. Also, please know that there is a mass transportation order to wear face covers. ALL bus riders must wear a face cover (including the driver) to and from school. This was a state mandate that we have to follow, regardless of district decision.
Visitors/Volunteers
At this time, we are not able to allow visitors or volunteers to enter the building during the school day. The district will reevaluate after 1st quarter.
This year will again be full of unexpected twists and turns, but I am confident we will push through adversity and rise to the challenges that come our way. We appreciate all that our families do to support Marthasville and will work hard to keep our building safe, clean, and our students loved and cared for. If you ever need to reach me, please don't hesitate to email, call, or message me on our Marthasville Facebook page. I am honored and excited to serve you.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and we will see you soon!
Most Kindly,
Mrs. Kristen Daffron
