The STEM Weekly Stream

STEM Academy Family Newsletter

Week of November 21

Hello STEM Families!

Welcome to this week's edition of the STEM Weekly Stream. We are wishing all members of the STEM Community a Happy Thanksgiving! I am truly very appreciative of the opportunity to be among the great students and staff at STEM Academy and here in Chester. Included in this edition is a recap of the College Excursion, as well as a look ahead toward upcoming events.

Colleges and Universities

Over the course of five days, our students were able to visit six campuses in four states, including:

Norfolk State University

Virginia State University

Shaw University

North Carolina Central University

George Washington University

Morgan State University

Each school was unique and offered students an array of academic and social opportunities. We have already begun receiving numerous acceptances, and expect many more to come.

Smithsonian Museum Visits

In addition to the College Visits, students also experienced the history of our nation's capital in Washington, DC. They visited the African American History Museum, the Holocaust Museum, as well as the Museum of Natural History, and more.

Students were also treated to an exclusive tour of the Library of Congress after it was closed to the public.

Thank You!

We know that we would not have been able to have this experience without the hard work and commitment of many different people. We are extremely grateful to everyone who supported this trip for us.

On behalf of STEM Academy, we would like to thank Chester Upland School District for helping make this trip a reality. In particular thank you to Receiver Nichols, Dr. Parkinson, Dr. Sutton, Ms. Mosley, and Ms. Hales for everything they did to ensure we were able to have this experience.

Additionally, the College Excursion would not have been possible without the many Alumni and Community Members who generously donated to sponsor students, including Ms. Quail and Ms. Neal of the School Board. Finally, we also greatly appreciate Coach Karen Miah who worked tirelessly to organize and collect donations for the Tour. Thank you for your support!

Thank you to all who came out tonight for Report Card Conferences. If you missed us, please reach out to your student's teacher by email for an update on how they are progressing.
