To inspire students to live faith filled lives
and to be, like St. John the Baptist,
heralds of God's love in the world
FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK...
Prepare the way of the Lord
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Given that Thanksgiving was so late, December and Advent are here. Yesterday, we gathered together for an All School Prayer Service to celebrate the beginning of the Advent Season. This prayer service was centered on our need and desire for light, and our recognition that Jesus Christ is the Light we come to celebrate.
This Friday we will have the opportunity to recognize, affirm and congratulate many new American citizens during our Naturalization Ceremony. The Honorable Judge Michael R. Barrett will preside over the ceremony for 67 citizenship candidates from 27 different countries. It is a wonderful opportunity for our students to welcome individuals and families into full citizenship.
Next Monday, we will gather for an All School Mass to celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. There are many opportunities during Advent to remember the ways that God has chosen to bring light into our world.
This Sunday is the second Sunday in Advent. The Gospel reading for this Sunday is particularly appropriate for us. Matthew reminds us (MT3:1-12) of John the Baptist heralding the coming of Jesus. John quotes Isaiah when he says, “A voice of one crying out in the desert, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.” John the Baptist is living his Mission and reminding us of ours.
The Season of Advent is a wonderful time for us as individuals and as a school to become both receivers and bearers of the Light. We, like St. John the Baptist, have been called to be heralds. During this Season of Advent, may we all take to heart the call of John the Baptist to Prepare the way of the Lord.
Sincerely,
Daniel A. Minelli
