2022-2023 TCESC VPA Assessment Information
STEP 1: Referral and Permission
Complete the form listed below specifying the area(s) of visual and performing arts that you would like the student to be assessed in.
The referral form may be completed by a teacher, parent, student, or peer either within or outside the district
Send the Visual and Performing Arts Referral Form with a parent letter to get student information and parent/guardian permission to screen/assess.

by January 16, 2023.
STEP 2: Screening
A screening checklist will be sent to a District qualified professional in the specific arts for each student referred and who knows the student well.
Each checklist consists of 7 to 11 questions that rate the behavior of the referred student.
To continue to the audition phase, students must score in an identification range on the checklist.
Qualified professionals are teachers who specialize in the arts (music, art, dance, drama), classroom teachers, or private teachers outside the district (for students taking private lessons).
Complete the screening checklists by February 3, 2023.
If a student scores in the screening range but below the identification range, another checklist will be sent for a second screening by February 17, 2023.
STEP 3: District/Parent Notifications
Students that score below the identification range on either a 1st or 2nd screening checklist will be sent a letter of non-qualification and the identification process ends.
Students that score within the identification range on either the 1st or 2nd screening checklist will be sent a letter giving information detailing the date/time and preparation needed for the identification audition.
Notifications of screening results will be sent to districts and
parents/guardians by March 1, 2023.
STEP 4: Student Assessment Preparation
Students being assessed for visual arts will be required to have a portfolio consisting of 5 works and a reflection page for each work.
Students being assessed for dance will be required to prepare a performance and complete a reflection page for the audition.
Students being assessed for instrumental music or vocal music will be required to prepare a performance for the audition.
Students being assessed for drama will be required to prepare a performance for the audition.
STEP 5: Assessments
All Visual Art students will be offered a time to drop off their 5 pieces of Art work along with their response sheets to the TCESC during March 27 until March 31, 2023.
Music referrals will have a face-to-face assessment at their home school .
Artwork must be ready for pick up at the TCESC during the week of April 11th - April 14th
All artwork that has been left at the TCESC will be returned to your school

STEP 6 Results
Notifications of audition results will be sent to districts and parents/guardians
by mid-May 2023.
