GES Title I Tips
May 2023
PARENT ENGAGEMENT = STUDENT SUCCESS
Thank You GES Parents
As some of you may know, Graysville will no longer be a Title I school for the 2023-24 school year. This loss of funding means we will no longer have a Parent Involvement Coordinator, as this position is paid out of Title I funds. It has been an honor serving in this position and I am very thankful for my time as the GES PIC! I have greatly enjoyed getting to know and working with our GES families. Thank you for supporting Title I over the years and please continue to stay engaged in your child’s education!
Thank you for your time and support,
Marissa Watson

RMS “Day of the Tiger” & Upcoming 6th Grade Parent Orientation
We are going to miss our 5th grade students and their parents! Change is always a little nerve racking but we are partnering with Ringgold Middle School to help make the transition process a little bit easier. Our 5th grade classes will take a tour of RMS on Tuesday, May 9th. Our 5th grade parents and students are invited to attend RMS’s Upcoming 6th grade Parent Orientation that evening at 6:00 pm in the RMS Gym. Please plan to attend this important meeting! Top 10 EASY Summer Learning Tips for Parents
Summer is a time to relax and slow down, but after a few restful days, the phrase "I'm bored" will begin utter from your child's mouth. Here are 10 easy ways you can keep kids entertained and help prevent summer learning loss.
- READ. READ. READ - Summer reading should be fun! Let your child read any and everything that interests them. Celebrate the end of a successful school year with a trip to the bookstore. Set up a quiet place for your child to read. Find new places to read around your home or take a field trip to the park to read outside. Encourage them to set a daily reading schedule and a reading goal for themselves.
- Have Fun with Numbers - Find creative ways to use math over the summer break. Let your child tally the grocery bill, help with a recipe or calculate the time. Find free math puzzles online.
- Turn off the Screens - A little screen time is ok, but too much is not healthy. Monitor and limit the amount of time your child spends in front of the TV and on their devices.
- Make Art - Kids love to create, but they rarely have time during the busy school year. Take advantage of the slower pace of summer to allow your child time to explore their artistic talents.
- Experiment with Science - Go look for bugs in the yard, play with magnets, collect rocks, flowers, and leaves. Summer is a great time to experiment with science!
- Eat Smart & Healthy - It's ok to treat yourselves to ice cream on a hot summer day, but don't eat the whole carton! Without the structure of a school day, may students tend to eat more junk food in the summer months. Help your child with healthy eating by offering a variety of fruits and vegetables and keep them on hand for snacking. Try your hand at a home garden or make fresh fruit popsicles. Let older children pick out and prepare a healthy meal for dinner.
- Get Outside - Take a hike, ride a bike, visit a park, play in the water. Plug in daily activities for your child to combat the summer slump. Child get less exercise in the summer without the structure of daily recess and gym classes. Encourage your child to play outside each day!
- Go to a Museum - There is a museum for every interest. Try to find one that would interest your child and take a special trip to explore. There are also many museums that offer online experiences if taking an actual trip isn't possible. Encourage your child to dig deeper into their interests.
- Read a Poem - There are lots of silly poems for kids. Help your child find one that makes them laugh. Encourage them to memorize their favorite lines or act it out. Have them write a funny poem themselves.
- Finally...Get Some Rest! - Attempt to keep a bedtime routine. It's ok to let your child stay up a bit later in the summer time. but it is important for them to maintain a regular bedtime and nighttime routine.
