A Message From Principal Dolan
Hello MPE Families,
Thank you so much for all of your donations to the Livingston Neighbors Helping Neighbors. The children are learning the importance of giving back to our community. Your generosity exceeded all of our expectations. Thank you!!!
Also, thank you for purchasing wishlist items for our teachers. Their faces light up when they receive the games, books and materials for their classes. MPE is better because of you!
We will be having a School Spirit Week during the week of December 20th. Details below!
Please continue to study the spelling words as we are excited to host a Spelling Bee on February 16th at 7 pm at MPM. This is completely optional.
I am super excited about our new Cultural Celebrations Committee. Please see below for more information. Please reach out to the PTA if you would like to be a part of this wonderful committee.
Our Community Meeting this week was full of fun, learning and sharing. Please ask your child to share the identity web they made with their group.
Class parties have begun and the children are excited to partake in fun activities with their classmates. Thank you to the class parents for making these fun events happen!
Thank you for the sneaker donations. We are thankful to you all.
Have a happy, healthy weekend!!
All my best,
Lorena Dolan
Cultural Awareness Committee
At MPE, we want to celebrate what makes us different! The PTA has created a new Cultural Awareness committee and we hope you can be a part of it! The committee needs your help! There will be different cultural celebrations throughout the school year and we will be asking our amazing parent volunteers to help. The parent volunteers will be asked to give a short 10-minute lesson and then a hands-on experience (Craft, Game, Dance, Etc). We look forward to learning and celebrating MPE family traditions.
We will be starting off the cultural celebrations with the Lunar New Year! If you are interested in coming in during the first few days of February please sign up below indicating your child's grade and classroom teacher. We are hoping for parent volunteers for each classroom but if that is not possible, we may ask if you can present to multiple classrooms in your grade. We feel it's VERY important that every class gets the same cultural awareness experience.
Stay tuned for the next Cultural Celebration in the months ahead! If you would like to be a part of this committee or have questions/suggestions, please email mpenjpta@gmail.com
Coding for Girls in 5th grade
An Hour of Code
All students are encouraged to participate in an hour of code this week (or any week!). If you would like to give your children this opportunity, try one of these resources:

Spelling Bee Information
On behalf of MPE and the PTA, we are so excited to announce that MPE has signed up to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee! Participation is completely voluntary, but this will be a lot of fun so we hope to see 100% participation! We will be providing more information as the event approaches. To prepare students for the spelling bee, you should have received an email with the list of words for your child’s grade.
Tentatively scheduled for January 6th, we will hold a school-wide spelling test on the words that are being sent home with this email. Each grade has their own list of words. Students will be encouraged to try their best and spell the words, but students are not required to study for this assessment. Students will be given a pledge sheet and will have the opportunity to raise money for every word they get right as part of a PTA fundraiser. Pledging is completely voluntary. Please see the pledge sheet attached below.

A Message From Our School Counselor
On Wednesday, December 15th MPE had the opportunity to celebrate diversity and empathy during our second Community Meeting! Students listened to the story Chocolate Milk, Por Favor! by Maria Dismondy! In the story, Johnny loves school until a new student Gabe arrives. In the beginning of the story, Johnny was very unkind to Gabe, but throughout the book he learns a very valuable lesson. Johnny learns that although the two students are different, they have similarities too! Together they celebrate those differences and become good friends! We encourage you to have conversations with your children this weekend on celebrating our differences and being proud to be unique!
Feel free to reach out to Miss Galluzzo at 973-535-8000 x6900 or dgalluzzo@livingston.org if you would like to talk to the school counselor.
Ordering Lunch
I recommend that you talk to your children about the lunches you are ordering for them to ensure that they like the selection before you order it.
The lunch form opens weekly on Sunday at 5 pm. Please order a week in advance.
