Rock Hill Review
September 27, 2020
Opening Up! - WE NEED YOUR HELP!!
Talk about a week of highs and lows! First off, it was GREAT to see our football team back in action and the thrill of having our FIRST EVER pep rally on The Hill!! We had a ton of compliments from our kids who were there for the event and who watched it online. I am so proud of the way our boys played Thursday and the MASSIVE level of success that we have had in so many programs early on. As I always remind the staff, just think how this is only the BEGINNING and our starting line, just imagine what this place will look like when we get our feet under us and are running at full steam.
Now for the other side of the coin. As many of you are aware we are in the midst of our first battle with the Coronavirus at RHHS. We did have our first confirmed cases this week and are taking the needed measures to ensure that our campus is disinfected and clean for our return on Monday. We also made an announcement to our students letting them know and our teachers reviewed our safety precautions again with their students. Please know that our KIDS are doing a FANTASTIC job when they are in the building doing what we ask of them. They space out at lunch, keep their learning areas clean, wear their mask, wash their hands and use hand sanitizer. I can 100% say that I have not had to address a single student in the building for not wearing their mask.
With that being said we will need YOUR HELP if we are going to be able to stop this in its tracks and continue to resume our somewhat "normal" day to day operations at Rock Hill. If your student(s) is not feeling well or has been in close contact with someone outside of school please out of precaution KEEP THEM AT HOME. They amazing thing about our teachers and the GREAT job they have done with our hybrid learning model is that all your student has to do is log in for the day and they WILL NOT be counted absent nor will they miss any instruction. Yes, in person learning is our preferred method of instruction but we understand the need to offer the online option at this time and know that it is what's best for some families. Therefore, please do not force your student to come to school if they are experiencing ANY symptoms. Just fill out the COVID screener and STAY HOME until your student feels better. This will help us protect our kids, staff and most importantly keep us IN SCHOOL. It's going to take all of us to do our part and PROTECT THE ROCK!!
I am so thankful for all the support our parents and community have given us early on. I know that this has made us catch our breath for a second but can promise you that we will do all we can to keep your kids safe and continue along this amazing journey we have started together. If you have any questions or concerns please DO NOT hesitate to reach out and GO ROCK!!

Notes from the Nurse:
Hello Rock Hill Families!
We are off to a great start here at Rock Hill High School! I love seeing our students enjoying being on campus. Their joy is contagious even through the masks! I appreciate how great our students have been at being socially distant and wearing masks. Our students Rock!
Since this is a very different school year than the norm, I want to remind you to please check the online Covid screener daily before coming to school if you are a student, parent of a student for the student or staff member. If you can answer no to all of the questions on the screener- great! We welcome you to come to school.
If you answer yes to any of the daily covid screening questions, we really need you to stay home and to respond to the screener. To respond to the screener, you will then click Rock Hill and report the situation, whether the student or staff member is having any illness/ symptoms, is awaiting covid testing, has been exposed to someone that is covid positive or has been diagnosed with covid. When I receive the alert that there is a response to the screener, I will contact the you about the situation. We can talk through the situation and decide together if our student or staff member can come to school or needs to stay home. (Just because you respond to the screener does not mean you will be restricted for a long period of time).
Parents, it is very important that you keep an ill student home please. This year looks different. If your student has a headache or sore throat for example- please keep them home, answer the screener and let your student do online school for the day until I can talk with you. In years past, kids could still come to school as long as they did not have fever, diarrhea or vomiting. That is not the case this year and we want to make sure you are aware of this change. We have to be more cautious so we can continue to have in person school by keep ill students at home.
When a student becomes ill during the school day, it is important that the student visit the clinic for an evaluation. Parents, if your student texts you that they feel ill, please ask them to visit the clinic. If your student meets the criteria to be sent home, we will contact you and we need a parent to be available to pick up the student within 30-60 minutes please.
This information has been shared by Dr. Ferguson and Mr. Toth. I still wanted to share it again. We need your partnership to keep our students and staff healthy. This is a different kind of school year, but we will work together to not only get through it but to Prosper! While this is a beautiful building and the best of the best, the greatest part of working on this Rock Hill campus is how wonderful our students, families and staff are. We have the best Rock Hill family and let’s help each other stay healthy and able to attend in person school😊
Thank you,

Rock Hill All District Orchestra
Please see below message from Orchestra Director Ron Planks and attached list of students
In a non-pandemic year, the students would spend a weekend working with a guest conductor/clinician and perform a live concert for the community. However, this year, the students will practice and record their part with a guide track, submit their videos, and a professional audio-video editor will compile them into one concert video.
The attached document is a list of all of the HS students selected from Rock Hill. Please join us in congratulating them on all their hard work.

The Varsity Boys finished second overall again and only two points behind Frisco Reedy. Blake Barnes led the race wire to wire and won in a personal record and Prosper ISD District Record of 15:33. Sophomore Gabriel De La O came in 6th overall (16:22 PR), senior Bryce Earls finished 9th overall (16:45), sophomore Samuel Knight finished 14th overall (17:02), and freshman Logan Dellenback who made up 7 spots over the last mile finished 15th overall (17:08 PR) to round out the top 5. Seniors Colten Van Voorhis finished 17th overall (17:15 PR) and Lukas Morehead finished 22nd overall (17:28 PR) aided the Blue Hawks displacement.
The JV Girls finished 2nd overall and only 9 points behind district rival McKinney North. Senior Rebecca Betanzo led the squad with a 4th place finish in a time of 22:15. She was followed immediately by freshman teammates Madison Paul in 5th place overall (22:27 PR), Daniela Mijares in 6th place overall (22:42 PR), and Ryann Griffiths in 7th place overall (22:50 PR). Senior Peyton Lehmann rounded out the top 5 finishing 14th overall in a time of 23:40. Junior Ella Dellenbach ran a personal best (24:01 PR) to finish 17th overall, and coming right behind was sophomore teammate Jazmyn Miller in 18th overall (24:02) for the Blue Hawks displacement.
The JV Boys had a great bounce back after last week’s fourth place finish, finishing 2nd overall. They were led by junior Connor King’s 5th place finish (18:59), senior Cody Duke in 9th place (19:14), freshman Nathan Hutto in 10th place (19:21 PR), freshman Joseph Duffy in 15th place (19:49 PR), and senior Ford Clark who finished 21st overall (20:11) passing five competitors in the final 100 meters of the race. Freshman Evan Petermier finished 26th overall (20:30 PR) and junior Wyatt Campbell finished 27th overall (20:36 PR) for the Blue Hawks displacement. Coach Morgan had this to say about the team’s performance, “It was a great day and a testament to our training. To have an entire squad PR or run an SB all on the same day shows we’re headed in the right direction. Each athlete ran extremely strong not for themselves but for their team, and the results reflect that.
The Blue Hawks will be off from competition the weekend of September 26th, but will resume on Saturday October 3rd at the McKinney North Invitational held at Evans Middle School. The varsity divisions will start at 8:00am, and the JV divisions will start at 10:00am. The girls are 1st and the boys are 6th in the North Texas XC Circuit Standings. Protect the Rock!

Parent and Guardians,
We are so excited to be a part of the opening of Rock Hill High School and laying the foundation for the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). July started with a great boost with an amazing membership drive. As parents and guardians, we believe that we all have similar goals. We want our children and the students attending Rock Hill to laugh, to be challenged, to be entertained and to feel the support of those around them. PTO is here with the students and teachers in mind. Every decision PTO makes is with the focus of each and every student and teacher. We encourage you to join the PTO and stay connected with all upcoming PTO sponsored events.
Should you have any questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to use via email at rockhillhighpto@gmail.com.
