Legalization of Marijuana Debate
Economic Effects of Marijuana Legalization
Marijuana is a very popular drug and a lot of people have tried it at least once in their life. Some of the most famous, important people in the U.S have tried it like Barack Obama, George Bush and a lot of our celebrities. So even thought all of these looked up too, well known people have tried it, it is still illegal drug. My question is why is it still illegal? Of course there are health problems that come from marijuana but there is with all alcohol and cigarettes too, so why are they legal. Drinking and driving is actually worse than driving while high off marijuana, and death caused by marijuana is less likely than from drinking. The government spends so much money trying to keep marijuana away from people and it's really not worth wasting the money because so many people do it anyway. Having marijuana illegal is also dangerous because people try to hid it and the dealers can be dangerous. So based on this information I found I think recreation marijuana should be legal.

Econimic effects of legalizing marijuana
Our national debt is 1.3 trillion, which is a lot. Our government is taxing people in a variety of ways to help pay for it. If we legalized marijuana and put a tax on it, it would cover about 13.7 billion of the 1.3 trillion.
Tax
Marijuana is only legal is Washington and Colorado right now. The marijuana tax revenue in Colorado is 67 million and it's 580 million in Washington. If we legalized it in all 50 states based on how much we are taxing Washington and Colorado, the tax revenue would be about 5.8 billion.
