Celebrating Us

Hello Pillow Panther Staff!

I hope y'all had a great weekend! We ran in the CASA Superhero Run with Everett and it was a blast. He loves to run and it was great to get to spend time with him and Caitlin.

I want to thank Coach Mikulencak and all of the teachers who participated in the staff wellness activities after school each day last week. It took a lot of time for coach to organize that and she did it out of love for y'all and out of a desire for us as a staff to be healthier. We hope to continue to offer staff wellness classes throughout the year.

I also want to thank all of the teachers that helped to make the Diez y Seis Celebration possible. It was great seeing the students, all the way from PreK to 4th, performing and taking pride in their Mexican heritage and teaching us about the significance of Diez y Seis. Also, having Cońsul Jorge Salcido there to lead the students in a chant was really special. We are so fortunate to have a diverse student body and it's so important that we celebrate that and take advantage of learning about one another's culture. It's something that truly separates us from other campuses. I look forward to seeing what your classes come up with for the Hispanic Heritage Month projects that will be displayed in October. Please use this opportunity to help your students see the importance of learning about one another's cultures.

Speaking of student work. Don't forget to have your bulletin boards covered with student work before tomorrow night's Back To School Night. If you don't have anything to display, tomorrow would be a good time to have your students produce some work that you can hang up before 5:30. It's been cool getting to see the work that is already displayed.

Just a reminder that we will begin in the cafeteria at 5:30 tomorrow evening. I will introduce each teacher to the parents and then send y'all off to your rooms. The families will begin heading to classrooms around 6:00 and we'll end at 7:00. Take advantage of tomorrow night as an opportunity to talk to parents about any important information that you want to share, and use that time to highlight the great things going on in your classroom.

Also, we are a month into school. Classroom schedules should be set by now. If you haven't emailed or printed out your classroom schedule for me, please do so ASAP. It needs to show times that you are in certain subject areas, lunch, recess, etc. This helps us to stay organized for observations, central office visits, and when the front office is trying to hunt a teacher down.

Lastly, the first 20 days are over and I haven't been a stickler about lesson plans up until this point, because I know the beginning of the year is hectic. I need to start receiving those lesson plans again. Please make sure to email me your weekly lesson plans by Monday morning each week. Thank you to those teachers who have already been emailing me your lesson plans. If your grade level collaborates on the plans and one person wants to send me lesson plans for the whole team, for each subject, that's fine as well. Either way, I need to start receiving those lesson plans each week.

I'm looking forward to another great week!
