Calling All Students...
Share Your Story with a Photo!
A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words...
What we're looking for:
To celebrate the achievements of the Higher Education Solution Network's (HESN) first crop of Summer Fellows, HESN and USAID's Office of Science and Technology (OST) are launching our inaugural Photo Contest in partnership with the HESN Development Labs. The contest will showcase the exciting work being done by HESN students both at home and abroad - if you’re an HESN student innovator, researcher, coder, or explorer, you’re eligible to enter.
Illustrate how you, your Development Lab, and USAID are engaged in the community you’re working in to solve tomorrow’s development challenges. Action-oriented photos are preferred, but photos of people, animals, plants and landscapes that are relevant to your work in the field are all eligible. Submit as many photos as you’d like! These can be photos of your work at the Development Lab, research you are working on, projects in the field, prototypes of your innovations, etc. Students are especially encouraged to tell the story of the Agency’s work through their own eyes and illustrate their fresh take on development work.
What happens next:
Once HESN receives the photos, we’ll upload them to Flickr with captions and photo credits. Winners will be chosen through public voting, and anyone can log onto Flickr to vote for their favorite photos. In the end, the 2 photos with the highest votes will win. We’ll also pick a USAID Staff Favorite, for a total of 3 winners.
Once all the votes are tallied, we’ll announce the winners via Twitter, Facebook, and Flickr. Winning students will also have the chance to write their own post on the USAID Impact Blog.
All entries must:
Include the date and location for the photograph as well as a brief description of what is happening in the image.
Be at least 300 dpi or larger (low resolution photos will not be considered).
Submitted digitally, with jpg files preferred.
- Identify the HESN Development Lab associated with the picture.
- Be submitted by the deadline of August 31, 2013.
All photos submitted to the contest will become sole property of the United States Agency for International Development, and may be used and distributed at its discretion.
