Weekly Newsletter
Dear parents,
Our box unit has sparked children’s imagination to exciting creations and discoveries. This week we have focused on the characteristics of boxes. We have looked at different shaped boxes from our collection such as rectangular (toothpaste box), triangular (specialty chocolates in triangular boxes), cubes (tissue box) and cylinder (oatmeal container). Children were invited to build structures using the different boxes and continue to enjoy their imaginative play
We also pondered about what makes a box a box. We concluded that boxes are "to put things in", they have faces, and they have a lid. As a group, we all contributed in making a pattern using boxes and things that were not a box.
Later on Friday we discussed the question “What goes in this box?” We talked about the environmental print on boxes and encouraged children to use letter and letter-sound recognition to guide their guesses.
This week we had a our first activity to develop writing skills. Children imitate adult behaviors, scribbling grocery lists, taking telephone messages, and writing letters. When children are given a reason to write, they begin the process of becoming writers. In this week's activity, Photo Writing, children had to write their observations on a picture taken in our classroom. This first approach will be placed in our journals.
I hope you enjoy this newsletter as they enjoyed their activities,
PK 3 Team
