Superintendent Update

Caldwell Parish Schools

Greetings Team Caldwell!

It's hard to believe we are already wrapping up September, but it sure is nice to welcome the crisp and cool autumn weather! It's exciting to be back in the middle of football season, cheering on our Spartans and spirit groups.

During the month of September, I began my quarterly school visits to "walk and talk" with principals and check out the cool PIRATE lessons throughout the district. More than anything, it is exciting to see teachers immerse themselves into their lessons and hear the students tell about what they are learning with so much enthusiasm! I look forward to the rest of my school visits so that I can see all of the wonderful lessons and activities going on in our classrooms!

Thanks for all you do for the students of Caldwell Parish!

Looking for a Teacher Certification Program?

The Department — in collaboration with the Board of Regents — launched a new website,, that allows prospective educators to explore teacher preparation programs. The website includes information on Louisiana’s 29 teacher preparation programs, including certification areas offered, testimonials, as well as the demographics of program completers and retention data. Each provider’s performance on Louisiana’s Teacher Preparation Quality Rating System will be added to the website this winter. Prospective educators can use the website to select teacher preparation programs that best meet their needs, and school systems can use the information to address their educator workforce needs.

Self-Care for Educators

One of the most difficult parts of the modern world is unplugging after work. Dojo, GroupMe, Facebook and texting have allowed parents and coworkers unlimited access to us, even on nights and weekends. You owe it to your family, friends, pets and maybe even your Netflix account to take a break from work each evening. Here are a few tips to help make this happen:

1) Change your clothing to signal a transition

2) Schedule a commitment right after school that forces you to disconnect from the stress of work.

3) Use your commute to process your day, escape your problems, or get in a positive headspace for the evening.

4) Have a short mindfulness ritual for yourself as soon as you get home.

5) Choose an activity that helps you release pent-up frustration and have fun.

6) Dismiss unwanted thoughts about school and practice being present.
