BT'S VERY OWN 17-YEAR OLD FOOD WASTE & INSECURITY RESEARCHER

Big picture
Pictured above is our very own Tyler Senzon (right) and his mentor Mr. Ben Collier (left) from the Farmlink Project. Tyler is a fellow at The Farmlink Project. He co-leads Farmlink Internnational, expanding the project to Canada and Mexico through pod-based research and outreach. He also coordinates logistics on the Deals and Transportations teams, having at this point moved more than 1.2 million pounds of surplus food from farms to food banks in communities in needs. Tyler is also helping to expand Farmlink's network of national carriers and transportations contacts. In addition to all of this Tyler has also started a chapter (the first of its kind in any high school in the U.S>) of the Farmlink Project. A big thank you to Tyler for devoting so much time to this very serious cause. - Andrea Buccino

FASHION STUDENTS EXPRESS THEIR SENTIMENTS THROUGH THEIR DESIGN SKILLS

The Fashion Students in Ms. George's Sophomore and Junior classes participated in projects that helped them express what they are thankful for and what is most important and meaningful to them. The Sophomore Pillow Project focused more on what is meaningful to them such as family, music, faith, friend, etc. The Junior's t-shirts focused on what they are most thankful and grateful for in their lives. The students and their amazing projects are featured above. - Anna George

NO MATTER WHAT WE STAND TOGETHER CLUB

Big picture

Hunter Porro and Tyler Iglesias have done a fantastic job getting the No Matter What We Stand Together club off to a fabulous start. They have found volunteer opportunities for BT students that are of great benefit to the New Jersey community. The club has been very busy this fall season, on November 4, volunteers boxed 784 boxes at the Community Food Bank of New Jersey in Hillside. A special thank you to Mr. Rueda for chaperoning the event!

On December 11, BT students volunteered at the annual Holiday Open House at the Kip Center in Rutherford. The Kip Center is an activity and nutrition center for senior citizens. Club members oversaw the selling of hot dogs, coffee, hot chocolate, chips, and drinks, along with helping to set up and clean up the event.

The week of December 13 to December 17, the club ran a Holiday Clothing Drive. An impressive total of 53 bags weighing 332 pounds were collected. The donations will go to Strengthen Our Sisters, an organization that runs a thrift store and uses proceeds to fund long-term/short-term shelters for domestic violence victims and their children. On top of this, for every pound donated, 15 cents will go to The Community Food Bank of New Jersey. With an additional generous contribution, the club was able to donate $100.

Thank you to the club members for making a difference by volunteering and serving your community! - Amy Surraco
