Message from Ms. Barkley, Coordinator of Early Learning
Dear ELC Families,
Over the last 6 weeks, the students have been learning about buildings. They have been discussing and investigating the buildings in our community, the types of tools used to build buildings, what buildings are made of, who builds buildings as well as what happens in different types of buildings.
To support the learning and provide authentic learning experiences, the Discovery Museum from Rockford, IL visited the ELC and the students had the opportunity to build different types of structures from a variety of materials. In addition, our transportation department provided our students with a tour of Antioch, where the students were able to see and learn about the different types of buildings that can be found in our community. The students also traveled to Germany where they learned the origin of the gingerbread house and constructed gingerbread houses.
As a reminder, we have early dismissal on Wednesday, December 21st and Thursday, December 22nd. AM Session 8:15-10:45 and PM Session 11:45-2:15.
On Friday, January 27th from 1pm-3pm we are hosting our second parent educational opportunity and encourage all families to attend. There are additional details below as well as a link to RSVP for the event. Childcare will be provided for preK students.
Have a wonderful winter break!
Ms. Barkley

Language and Literacy- Raising a Reader
This presentation will teach family members what is meant by literacy development, why it is important, that family involvement matters, and how they can foster their children’s literacy development at home. We’ll discuss many ways families can weave literacy into their daily activities, and support their child’s learning at school. Participants will receive helpful tip sheets and resources for literacy activities at home. Parents that participate in this workshop will have the option to register for childcare for their preK child during the duration of the workshop.
