OHMAR Fall Workshop in Oral History
25 Things You Should Know
Saturday, October 5, 2013, from 10:00 to 3:30
Do you have questions about starting an oral history project or improving an existing program? Is your organization wrestling with whether to record in audio or video? Are you looking for advice about what your final product should be? Are you a teacher, administrator, graduate student, or professor who desires more information about the IRB process? Oral History in the Mid-Atlantic Region would like to offer its help.
The workshop will be useful for those who are new to the oral history field as well as for those who have questions stemming from existing oral history programs. We will particularly focus on the planning and execution of oral history projects by 501(c)(3) organizations such as historical societies, museums, libraries, schools, and universities.
Led by Glenn T Johnston, Chair, Humanities and Public History at Stevenson University, morning sessions will provide orientations to planning oral history projects, defining goals and objectives for those projects, research recommendations, legal and ethical considerations, as well as an overview of oral history techniques and technology. Concurrent afternoon sessions will provide tips regarding video and audio capture as well as the Institutional Review Board (IRB) process associated with human subjects research. Morning coffee and light refreshments will be provided along with a box lunch. Box lunches are ordered through the registration form below.
Stevenson University is located at 1525 Greenspring Valley Rd, Stevenson, MD 21153. Just 20 minutes north of Baltimore; easily accessible by I-95, I-83, and I-695.
