Dr. Dierker Honored
On Monday, March 2, our very own Dr. Wayne Dierker was recognized as the Exemplary New Principal for the South Central region at the MAESP Conference. This was an honor voted on by his peers in the South Central region. As found at www.maesp.com, the Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals (MAESP) is a statewide organization in Missouri that exists to serve the needs of elementary and middle school principals, assistant principals and those educators interested in becoming elementary or middle level principals. MAESP is an affiliate of the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP).
Dr. Dierker joined the Lonedell School District in 2017 serving as principal. He is also a Lonedell graduate, and a home grown member of the Lonedell community. We couldn't be prouder of his tireless service to Lonedell, its students and staff, and this recognition.

Read Across America
Students throughout the district celebrated Read Across America Week. Our youngest little ones were given a special treat of rotating through Pre K through 2nd grade classes. During these rotations, the classroom teachers and substitutes chose their favorite book to read to the students. The students were cudddled up in their warm jammies and even enjoyed having their favorite stuffed animals as part of spirit week.
According to this article found on www.pbs.org, the benefits of reading to children are numerous. "Reading aloud to kids has clear cognitive benefits. For example, brain scans show that hearing stories strengthens the part of the brain associated with visual imagery, story comprehension, and word meaning. One study found that kindergarten children who were read to at least three times a week had a “significantly greater phonemic awareness than did children who were read to less often.” And the landmark Becoming a Nation of Readers report from 1985 concluded that “the single most important activity for building knowledge for their eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children.” But reading also strengthens children’s social, emotional, and character development. According to a recently published study, reading to very young children is linked to decreased levels of aggression, hyperactivity, and attention difficulties."
St. Clair FFA club visits Lonedell R-14
Out students enjoyed the animals most of all. It was nice to see so many Lonedell graduates take leadership roles in this program.
