Description
External genital warts are generally caused by certain strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a common sexually transmitted infection that affects up to 75% of men and women who are sexually active. Often those who contract HPV will not know because it did not present symptoms and resolved on its own.
Symptoms
warts found on:
- penis
- scrotum
- thigh
- inside or on anus
- inside or on vagina
- Cervix
Risks Involved
- Not likely to pass on to baby but still possible
- Warts grow faster during pregnancy
- Can result in cancer
Treatment Options
- Some doctors do not treat warts during pregnancy
- Freezing, surgical, and lazer are ways the warts may be removed
- Prescription medication
