Reeceville Elementary School
Monday Morning Message: March 8, 2021
Returning All Students to Reeceville
We are looking forward to welcoming all of our students who choose to come back into the building as early as March 15. We are hoping Chester County's COVID cases stay low enough for us to do so. We will send a communication the weekend before (March 13 or March14) confirming that all children may return. Please be on the lookout for that communication.

Create a Character
One of the events was for students to create a character from a story that they read or they could invent their own character. Miss Wesley's and Mrs. Neff's students show off their creativity with the characters below.

Reeceville has a new Fork Farms Hydroponic Garden And We Are Growing Lettuce!
The Coatesville Area School district received a grant so that our students can have hands-on experience with growing food. This experience will help our students build understandings about plants, life cycles, energy, and many other areas of the curriculum. While we plan to involve as many students as possible in the farming process, Mrs. Canning chose a group of some of her top PLTW Science students, to get the project started. They opened boxes, inventoried the parts, built the base, pump, and towers, filled the containers with water, ran initial tests to level the pH and total dissolved solids (tds) in the water, and finally planted the lettuce seeds. It was an amazing job done by all to read procedures, watch videos, work together, and get the job done! This week, our lettuce seedlings should be ready to transfer into the garden towers.
We are using the large television in the lobby to highlight progress so that classes can come by and see the hydroponic garden itself and view images and videos to learn about the process from start to finish! Each week, classes can help with farm maintenance such as: water will be added, pH and tds testing & leveling will be done, and hydrogen peroxide will be added to fight any microbes.
We should have about 120 heads of lettuce in the next six weeks. Thank you to all of the students who got our farm up and running!
Fifth Graders Schedule Classes for Next Year
Fifth Graders – believe it or not, it is soon time for us to begin scheduling for 6th grade. In next week’s MMM, you will receive directions on how to select classes for your sixth grade year. The scheduling window will be open from March 15th through March 26th. We just wanted to give you a heads up this week so you are ready next week when the scheduling window opens.
