WE NEED PARENT VOLUNTEERS!

Parent volunteers are absolutely critical to the success of the band program and allowing students to get the most benefit from their hard work. It’s going to be a fantastic football season, but we need everyone to pitch in and show their Hornet spirit!

We will need a cadre of parent volunteers for every football game (home and away). A few of the volunteer opportunities include making homemade concession stand goodies, grilling and selling concession stand items, chaperoning students, photographing and videotaping the band, working on the pit crew, and selling 50/50 raffle tickets during the game.

Please take a look at the football games in August and sign up for a few spots that interest you and work with your schedule. The students and band directors have worked so hard to make this the best season yet, so let’s rally behind them for a wonderful, musical fall season!

HOW TO SIGN UP: Log into Charms and go to the Calendar. A multi-colored hand indicates that volunteers are needed for that event. Click on the hand to sign up for volunteer slots.

Overview of volunteer positions:

Chaperones: Adult chaperones must accompany the band to any event in which students perform to oversee their well-being, ensure proper behavior, first aid and logistical considerations so that the band directors and staff can focus on the music program.

# of volunteers needed (home games): 4 per game

# of volunteers needed (away games): 6 per game (2 per bus)

Pit Crew: the pit crew act as the “roadies” for the band and are responsible for quickly moving show gear into position and then quickly removing it after the performance. Not all of the pit crew work involves heavy lifting, as much of it is pushing equipment on wheels. Students are responsible for a good deal of loading and unloading the truck and pit crew volunteers supervise their work.

# of volunteers needed: 8 per game

Visitor Concession Stand (beginning August 20): The RHSBBA runs the concession stand on the visitor's side of the field at home football games. (The football booster club runs the home side concession stand.) Net proceeds from the visitor concession side fund the RHSBBA . Volunteers staff the concession stand, selling food and drinks.

# of volunteers needed (home games only): 4 for set up and first half, 4 for second half and clean up

Baking team (beginning August 20): Volunteers bake goods, such as brownies and cookies, to sell at the visitor concession stand for each home game. The baked goods should be packaged for individual sale and either delivered to the band room the afternoon of the game or directly to the visitor concession if the baker is attending the game.

# of volunteers needed: 5 per home game

Grill team (beginning August 20): This team of volunteers cooks the hamburgers and hot dogs sold at the visitor concession during home football games. They set up the grills and cook before and during the game, and then clean and break down afterwards.

# of volunteers needed: 5 per home game

3rd Quarter Meals: Band students have the opportunity to purchase in advance meals from the visitor's concession. Volunteers report to the concession during halftime and the third quarter to organize the meals on tables outside the concession stand and pass them out to students.

# of volunteers needed: 3 per home game

Photographers and videographers: Photographers and videographers document the band's performance at various events, as well as take candid shots for use in social media. Note: You don’t have to be a professional photographer or own fancy equipment; cell phone photos are perfectly acceptable.

# of volunteers needed: 2 photographers and 1 videographer at each event

If you have questions regarding volunteering, please email Stuart Dougherty at stuartdougherty@gmail.com.
