News from this week
Dear Parents,
We had another busy week! Most students scored very well on the Multiplication, Addition, and Subtraction Assessment. Many errors had to do with the actual computing of numbers, not difficulty with concepts. I would really like students to practice their facts for at least 10-15 minutes per day. I have numerous games on e-class to practice these facts. MegaMath is also a resource on your child's landing page. Check them out! If you are constantly on the go, you can make a game of it in the car or while cooking dinner. Any practice will help.
We had a presentation about Colonial Times by a man dressed in full patriot gear for the fourth grade students in the media center. Ask your child what he/she learned. We also worked on short songs and raps in our classroom. The groups each had a different event that led up to the Revolutionary war. We will record these songs next week and put them together to make videos. I will share the link once we get them ready.
I hope to see your child at Morning Math on Tuesday at 7:15. :-) Now that we finished multiplying, we will move onto division. I will send out and post a few short videos to show you the 'new' way students learn long division. Please refrain from teaching them the way we learned growing up until they learn to do partial quotients.
If you would like to donate any treats to our class treasure box, you may send them in at any time. I usually have small things in there, such as candy, small toys, pens, etc. The treasure box is one of the treats students can purchase with their classroom money. If you have a question about any items you may want to send in, just send me an email.
Our reading program has officially started. Reading logs will be sent home on Fridays in the Friday folder to start for that for that week, and they are due every Monday or the first day of the school week. Students are welcome to write their reading list on a piece of paper if they ever find themselves without a log on a Sunday night. Please make sure to sign your child's reading log every week or else it will not be counted. Also, if you decide to submit the reading log online, please send me an email by Monday morning. I do not get a list of online submissions until Wednesday, so I need to get the confirmation of submission from the parents.
There is no testing next week and we will be back on a regular schedule, so please feel free to come and join your child for lunch. The following week is a no visitor week again. :-(
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!
Mrs. Stoffle

What is PBIS?
Parents,
We have an exciting school wide initiative for the 2018-2019 school year! Gwin Oaks Elementary School is a PBIS School.
HOW PARENTS CAN SUPPORT PBIS?
Be Ready
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
Family involvement in a child's education increases the child's likelihood of success. Your help with our behavior system is very important. We ask that you support our staff in the following ways:
• Please remind your child of the school's general behavior expectations each day before he/she leaves for school: Being ready, respectful, and responsible.
• Ask your child to give examples of how he/she demonstrated expectations while at school in different settings.
Thank you for your support. It is greatly appreciated.
