Books and Water Don't Mix

Unfortunately, the library has seen a high number of water-related accidents with books in the past month. That is the number one reason that the school library needs to charge families for book damage.

Here are some tips to avoid accidents:

Books absorb water like a sponge. Children often don’t notice that something is leaking inside their backpack because a book absorbs the moisture so well!

Remind your child to never put water bottles or wet lunch items inside their backpack if they are also carrying library, textbooks, or Chromebooks.
Consider giving your child a large ziplock-type bag (gallon or larger) to carry their books inside their backpack. It’s a great way to keep things safe.
Remind your child to never leave books outside.
Remind your child to be especially careful on rainy days.

If a library or book or device gets wet:

Wet books begin growing mold within 48 hours. Books with significant damage, or ANY evidence of mold, have to be thrown away because of the health risk. Families are responsible for the replacement price if a book has to be discarded.

Bring the book back to the library immediately. The librarian knows how to dry books properly and minimize the damage.
Give the book directly to the librarian (or your child’s teacher). We will not be angry. Sometimes accidents happen. We will be very glad that you were responsible enough to tell us!
Do not return wet books in the classroom. Bring it into the library.
If the damage is minor and the book is still usable (as determined by the librarian), families are only charged part of the replacement price instead of the full amount.

Please Help Increase Our School Funding by Filling Out this Application

Although school meals are now free to all students, the application for free and reduced-price meals is still very important. School funding depends in part on the number of students at our school who qualify for free or reduced-price meals. With all students now eating for free, fewer families are completing the application and our school is at risk of losing much-needed educational funds. Plus, students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals may also be missing out on discounts on bus transportation, before and after school care, and home internet!

Even if you did not qualify before, but your income has changed, you may now qualify. For example, children from a family of four are eligible if the total gross (pre-tax) household income is less than $4,279 per month, or less than $51,338 per year. Household income information is confidential and applying online is quick and easy. Apply online at MySchoolApps.com, or pick up a paper application in the school office.
