CANKTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Students in Mrs. Castille’s class at Cankton Elementary learned about static electricity and how a positively charged object reacts when it comes into contact with a negatively charged object. Students used balloons to interact with things such as soda cans, cotton balls, and little pieces of paper.

East elementary recently held it's annual parent night. Teachers taught lessons similar to those taught to students during the day. Teachers also discussed with parents the new CKLA program (Reading & English).

EUNICE JR HIGH SCHOOL

Congratulations to the 44 Eunice Junior High School students who are eligible to compete in the school-based Student of the Year competition. Each student met the state-mandated requirements for the Louisiana Student of the Year.

Students who choose to compete will have a complete a biographical sketch, a writing competition, and an interview process. The winner of the EJHS Student of the Year Contest will then go on to compete at the Parish level against other 8th graders in the Parish.

Eunice Junior High School- The Yearbook Committee recently attended the Herff Jones Yearbook Workshop at Crowley High School. The students were able to learn about new yearbook trends along with sales ideas to promote this year's book. The students were able to take part in a hands-on tutorial in making layouts to help increase the number of student pictures included in the yearbook. The yearbook committee at EJHS is sponsored by Mrs. Lauren Brown.

Pre-K students at Glendale Elementary recently had a Grandparent’s Day Celebration! The children performed songs, shared art projects, and enjoyed breakfast treats with their grandparents.

Glendale Elementary Pre-K students are learning about the primary colors and the magic of color mixing. After reading books about colors and mixing paint colors during art, the students observed color changes during a “walking water” science experiment. Check out his face when he saw the results! HIGHLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Highland Pre-K had a special visitor because they are learning about people that help around the school. Mrs. Jill, Highland's cafeteria manager, came to visit with the students and answered their questions about preparing food, the type of clothes & shoes that the cooks have to wear, and the types of appliances/tools they use in the kitchen. The Pre-K students really enjoyed learning about how their food is prepared for them every day.

Highland Elementary has joined with Super 1 stores (Brookshire's Grocery Company) in honoring veterans. Brookshire's will be flying 29 veterans to Washington DC to visit several monuments and memorials. This trip is free of charge to the veterans. Students at Highland Elementary wrote letters and colored pictures to give to the veterans to show their thanks for all they have done for us. The picture is of Mrs. Amy Myers and Eunice Super 1 store manager, Brendan Tauzin.

Students in Kindergarten through 4th grade are learning Spanish this year at Highland! These students are pictured with some of the posters created to help them learn. This month students are learning and practicing their numbers in Spanish.
Highland's students are utilizing Leadership Folders this year as part of Leader of Me. Today, we kicked off Wiggy Wednesday. On Wiggy Wednesday, Ms. LeDoux chooses random students from each class to present their WIGS (wildly important goals) in their Leadership Folders to her. The students did a great job sharing all about themselves and their victories they've celebrated thus far in the year.

Mrs. Enriquez's English II students work diligently to find similarities and differences between today's fast food industry and Chicago's meatpacking industry of the 1900's. Students used both literary and informational texts to complete this task. They discovered that some of the same issues from the 20th century still exist within the food industry today.
