At the Starting Line
Reflecting on these games and accomplishments, I thought about what conditions allowed these athletes to be successful. They didn't become gold medalists over night. They had to start somewhere. That first step in trying something new can often be uncomfortable and even scary. What would these Games have looked like if Michael Phelps never tried to swim? Or if Simon Biles let her fear get in her way of tumbling or the balance beam? Or if Usain Bolt thought that it was impossible to win 3 Games in a row, so why even try?
As we begin to settle into our new school year, we have an opportunity to start implementing new ideas and strategies to best meet the needs of our students. We essentially are at the starting line of our curriculum and have a fresh slate to engage and reach students on a different level. This is the perfect opportunity to stretch ourselves and take the first step in trying something new. Every Gold Medalist had to start somewhere. Where will you start in order to reach your "Gold Medal?"
