From Your Plank South Leadership Team
Plank South Families,
Lots of very important information to share this week!
- Tomorrow (Monday) is the last day to sign-up for the Family Fun Night this Saturday night! Here is the link to the flyer with the details!
- It is already time for us to start thinking about placement for 2018-19. Scroll down for more information on the process and how to provide your input!
- There was a truly epic assembly on Thursday to celebrate meeting our Jump Rope & Hoops for Heart goal. Just watch the video!
- Also, if you have not yet read Superintendent Gumina's letter on NYS assessments, please do. One important note for our planning purposes- if you do not want your child to take one or more of the grade 3-8 NYS assessments please either send a letter or e-mail to Mrs. Sullivan (jennifer_sullivan@webstercsd.org) by Monday, March 26th. The one thing we do recommend is that this decision comes from you now, based on your beliefs and what is best for your child, not from your child when assessments begin. The reason we write this is that sometimes when assessments arrive kids say they feel a little nervous and/or that they do not want to take the exams. Given the many times in the future when your child will be nervous or need to do something they are not excited about, we believe it is usually best in that scenario for the child to take the assessments and develop the Essential Skills of Perseverance and Resilience!

Input into the Placement Process!
It is hard to believe, but this month we are beginning the multi-month process of placing students in classes for 2018-19. There are many factors to consider, but in the end our goal is to place each child in the right class with the right group of kids to maximize learning.
Though we know your child very well at this point, including their strengths and needs in school, we know you know your child best… and in a different way than we do. This quick Parent Input Form(click the link) is a chance for you to share information about your child to help us make the best possible choices when determining class placement for next year.
Jump Rope & Hoopes for Heart
At our celebration assembly on Thursday kids shared how they made healthy heart choices this month and we celebrated meeting our goal. Here is the link for the whole assembly, but the part you want to see, The Great Pie Fight of 2018 is in the embedded video below!
The Science Fair!!!
The 39th Annual Science Fair is Thursday evening and we could definitely use a few more volunteers!! Consider the opportunities below, particularly if your child is participating!

Community Arts Day Volunteering
You can learn all about Community Arts Day in the flyer at the bottom of the newsletter or on the CAD page on Webster Central PTSA’s website. However, please don’t forget that we need a lot of volunteers, district wide, to make this a successful event. Additionally, when at least 30 Plank South parents volunteer for this event, our PTSA receives a small part of the proceeds raised on the day of the event.
There are many different ways to volunteer, including providing baked good to sell on the day of the event. Please visit this link to sign-up to help with Community Arts Day. Thank you!
