DISTRICT UPDATES & IMPORTANT INFORMATION
It’s that time of year! Parents that choose to refuse STAAR testing for their students will be completing and submitting the form located on our website. Principal Time-Sensitive Action Item: Please make sure your teachers and staff know that parents can refuse testing and that if a form is turned in to a teacher/staff member, the form must be given to the campus administrator for processing. The message cannot be that “refusal is not allowed”. This form is located on the district website under Assessment and Accountability > State Assessments. A direct link to the form can be found here. CISD Summer Conference: Carroll Summer Conference will be July 18 & 19, 2023 and session proposals are requested. Proposals need to be completed by May 1st, 2023 and the final deadline for completed presentations for review need to be done by June 1st, 2023. Please forward this survey form and the dates to your teachers. End of Year Awards: Service Awards (5-year, 10-year, etc) will be distributed at the Campus Level this year and will be part of your End of Year Celebration. How you celebrate your end of year awards is completely up to the campus. We are thinking of combining this with retirement and Linda P. We will talk with teams to get input and see what the majority wants. Intruder Audit Updates: To clarify all of the safety and security audits we are undergoing at the moment: Intruder Audit - Conducted by Region 11. Checking exterior doors only. Fail this audit you must sit in front of the school board to discuss a corrective action plan. Required safety audit to be done every 3 years by the state - This is a very comprehensive audit. They began with an intruder audit, but will be returning to all campuses for the next 4 weeks to finalize. Things to know and prepare for: They will be issued a contractors badge to access the campus and 2 master keys to access areas of the building. If you have someone to escort them please do so but it is not expected. They will always check in with an administrator before beginning to evaluate areas, items and other safety concerns. Please find a location (nothing fancy) for the team to review documents, talk to staff etc. Comprehensive document review checklist - this is what you will be evaluated on Complete list of all areas including interview questions can be found HERE ALL district expectations will also be evaluated including teacher classrooms. If you see anyone without a CISD badge or visitor sticker, we are to escort them to the office to get a sticker. Remind staff to keep all classroom doors locked.
OUES Invite to Write for the 2023-2024 School Year
Dear Old Union Parents,
Every year, as we prepare class lists, we welcome your input. We are providing this form for any information you feel will help us in the important task of class placement. If you would like to participate, please complete this form by Friday, April 28th.
We take this responsibility seriously and invest much consideration and time. Matching the needs of each student with the strengths and teaching styles of our teachers, while also trying to obtain a balance of abilities, special needs and boy to girl ratio in each classroom is of utmost importance. All factors assist in creating the most conducive learning environment for each child.
Please include information you might have shared in previous years that is still relevant as we do not keep that information. The staff and I work together to consider all needs. Please do not request a specific teacher on your form.
Thank you for your support of Old Union Elementary School.
Jon Fike, Principal
