Meals are very important in French lives. Lunch and dinner usually consist of several courses including a main course, a simple green salad, cheese and a dessert. A special meal will have up to 9 courses. Appetizers are usually cold vegetables or soups. The french eat a large variety of meals. Potatoes are VERY common. Desserts are usually a fresh fruit and for special occasions ice cream or pastries.

A meal is a great way to celebrate special occasions including New years, Christmas and Birthdays. They also exchange small gifts.
