Samaritan’s Suicide Prevention Presentation for Grade 7 Students
As an extension of health and wellness education at KP Middle School, the Samaritans of Boston will be meeting with 7th graders during their Foundations class to engage our students in a discussion on identifying the symptoms of depression, recognizing the warning signs of suicide, and how to seek help for themselves or others who may be dealing with these issues.
During the week of November 8th, students currently taking Foundations will have this presentation. Others will have the presentation in the trimester their Foundations class is scheduled. Students who do not have Foundations due to scheduling will participate in a presentation later this year,
Samaritan’s Suicide Prevention Presentation for Parents- Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 6:30 pm (Virtual Presentation)
To supplement the grade 7 student lesson and raise parent awareness, the Samaritans will provide a presentation for parents focused on suicide prevention, mental health and wellness. In addition to understanding the content shared with the students, parents will learn how to:
recognize warning signs and risk factors
provide support to someone who is struggling
manage stress and develop effective coping skills
identify resources for help

American Mathematics Contest (AMC) 8
KPMS will be hosting the AMC 8 in mid-January. Pre-registration is required. The contest is open to all KPMS students in grade 7 & 8. This will be a paper assessment during school hours in January 2022. If you would like your child to participate, please have your child pre-register by using the Google form below by November 15, 2021.

FAQs for the AMC 8
Q. What is the AMC 8?
A. The AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40-minute, multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development of problem-solving skills. The AMC 8 provides an opportunity for middle school students to develop positive attitudes towards analytical thinking and mathematics that can assist in future careers. Students apply classroom skills to unique problem-solving challenges in a low-stress and friendly environment.
The material covered on the AMC 8 includes topics from a typical middle school mathematics curriculum. Possible topics include but are not limited to: counting and probability, estimation, proportional reasoning, elementary geometry including the Pythagorean Theorem, spatial visualization, everyday applications, and reading and interpreting graphs and tables. In addition some of the later questions may involve linear or quadratic functions and equations, coordinate geometry, and other topics traditionally covered in a beginning algebra course.

Q. Who is eligible to participate in the competition?
A. Students with a passion for problem-solving who are in grade 8 or below and under 14.5 years of age on the day of the competition are eligible to participate in the AMC 8.
Cradles to Crayons Drive: Nov 10 - Dec 3
A Message from 7th Graders, Ashley Ann Cleverdon & Hollis Hunt:
We will be holding a Cradles to Crayons clothing drive at KPMS starting Wednesday, November 10th and ending on Friday, December 3rd. We are looking for new or like-new clothing such as winter hats, gloves, coats, and sweaters! Sizes infant to adult medium are accepted. The donation boxes will be located in the front lobby. Please drop-off items during school hours.

Lip Sync Battle - Friday, November 19
The Healthy KP Substance Use Prevention Coalition is excited to announce our upcoming middle school event, Lip Sync Battle! This event will be held on Friday, November 19th from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM at KPMS and will be FREE to all middle school students. Students are encouraged to sign up whether they are participating or attending to watch the performances to ensure we have adequate space and snacks for students in advance.
Healthy KP was founded in 2018 with the goal of empowering students from Wrentham, Norfolk, and Plainville to live a healthy, substance-free lifestyle through youth leadership, education, training, policy and support.
STEM I classes built and coded their first iteration of a robotic hand today, using Lego SPIKE and Scratch coding.

P-EBT and SNAP Reminders:
Based on federal rules, students attending school in-person are not eligible for Pandemic-EBT (P-EBT), but the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) encourages students and families to keep their P-EBT cards. More information can be found at MAp-EBT.org.
If students received P-EBT, they may be eligible for SNAP. SNAP, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Families who received P-EBT are encouraged to sign up for SNAP. It is fast and easy to apply, and the monthly SNAP amount is now higher than ever ($658 for a family of three and $835 for a family of four!). Video on SNAP
