Tiger Times
NEWS AND INFO FOR SLATER STAFF 3.9
It's Women's History Month!
This month, let's consider how we can work toward equity for our girls! Our standards include 59 men, but only 11 women. We also know that many of our students are conditioned to believe all kinds of negative stereotypes and false narratives about what it means to be male or female. How can we work toward balancing the scales? How can we help educate our students about the contributions, intelligence, strength and competence of women? How can we help our male students to become allies instead of contributing toward toxic masculinity and patriarchy? If you have an idea, send it to Mrs. Kemp to win a prize!

- we should not only maintain aggressive monitoring at all times, but increase our efforts to monitor students.
- stay laser-focused on tracking data as we prepare for GMAS in grades 3-5.
- consider your team and the safety of students as you decide whether to take off or not.
- REMEMBER THAT ALL DAYS IN MAY ARE CRITICAL DAYS DUE TO GMAS, AND NO TIME OFF WILL BE APPROVED DURING MILESTONES
Our students matter, and they need us to finish strong. We get another chance to be better next year, but they unfortunately do not get another chance to experience this year again. They deserve educators committed to them until the very end. FINISH STRONG!

This week we sent 125 messages to families and 32 photos and videos home. The highlight of the week again, is the fact that we met our goal of 90% positive feedback for the week.
Remember ClassDojo usage is a school wide initiative! We want all grade levels to leverage ClassDojo’s functionality to promote student and parent feedback. Please reach out to any parents that have not connected with your ClassDojo. Contact Ms. Woods if you need additional support.
Every teacher should have only 5 skills (3 schoolwide + 1 class custom + 1 grade level custom) weighted at 1 point. The same 5 skill should be reflected in “Needs Work” and weighted at 0 points. Set a goal for posting to your class story next week in addition to a personal messaging goal to families.

The students were thrilled about Tuesday’s Love My Bus Month Event! Students received pencils on their way home. Slater runs 4 traditional buses each day for approximately 140 students. 1 school bus takes 36 cars off the road contributing to the betterment of our environment. Check out our wonderful students!

Culture and Safety Reminders
Great job on the most recent tornado drill! Thank you for following safety protocols efficiently!
LOCKDOWNS
Lockdowns can happen for a variety of reasons. All kinds of emergencies, including student illness, can trigger a lockdown. As a reminder, please treat and respond to every lockdown event with the highest sense of urgency. During our interior lockdown incident last week there were classes that attempted movement. During an interior lockdown the mandatory expectations are:
1. Close and lock all exterior/classroom doors; open exterior window blinds or curtains to allow exterior visibility into classroom.
2. Conduct accountability procedures. Display appropriate status cards.
3. Staff and students DO NOT leave classroom; continue classroom instruction or normal activities within the classroom.
4. DO NOT contact office unless you have pertinent information or an emergency.
During March we will have a fire, shelter in place, and a reverse evacuation drill.
BADGES
Please remember that your ID Badges MUST be worn while in the building and during your entire work shift.
Everything starts and is supported by self-awareness, remember to always stay in your CAR! Be calm, aware and respectful in all that you do.
Slater’s CARE Team (Compassion based Analysis and Response Effort) hard at work during their weekly meeting of the minds to support some of the students most in need of support and compassion.

Culture Resource of the Week
Being both an election year and a census year, 2020 presents a plethora of unique, authentic, real world learning opportunities for our beloved students. The 2020 Census counts the population in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories. In March, homes across the country will begin receiving invitations to complete the 2020 Census. Once the invitation arrives, you can respond for your home in one of three ways: online, by phone, or by mail. A complete and accurate count is critical for all Georgia communities, because the results of the 2020 Census will affect community funding, congressional representation, and more.
Louisiana’s Department of Education has featured a toolbox to find activities specially designed to be engaging and appropriate for your students' grade level, like counting for kindergartners. Each activity also teaches our students about the importance of a complete count in the 2020 Census.
