From the Principal's Desk
Greetings from CSE,
What a great week! I can't believe that another September has come and gone! Here are some very quick updates for CSE.
1. GREEN AREA. The GREEN AREA in the CSE Parking lot is for student drop off only. Parents, stay in your cars in this area! You cannot park here.
2. Oct 13th Early Release. Remember this is our first early release! Students release at 12:00 p.m.
3. Student/Parent Hand Book- This is for your review. This handbook outlines the policies and procedures for ROCORI elementary students. Link to the ROCORI elementary handbook can be found here!
4. Electronics: We highly discourage bringing electronic devices to school. They are not allowed in the classrooms or playground. Things such as IPODS, Cellphones, Kindles should be left at home. If students do bring them, we expect that they stay off and in backpacks. They are brought at your own risk.
Thanks!
Have a fabulous week!
Sincerely,
Dr. Eric Skanson

What I love most about my job at CSE
I am brand new to CSE and I have already fell in love with the amazing staff who work here. Everyone is always so helpful and friendly and I already feel welcomed and included. The staff is always smiling and it truly makes for a great atmosphere throughout CSE.
Favorite Food
Peanut Butter
Favorite Children's Book.. and Why!
The Book With No Pictures
This is my favorite book because just reading the title usually makes kids not want to read/listen to it. However, this book is hilarious!
Hobbies
I am a sports FANATIC! I love playing/watching/coaching just about every sport. I love to bow hunt and spend time outdoors with my dog Ace. I also enjoy spending time with family and friends doing just about anything. (Especially yard games!)
Interesting FACTS about ME
I was adopted as a baby and had the wonderful opportunity to be reconnected with my birth parents when I turned 18. I am blessed to now have 2 amazing families. I am in the process of getting a children's book published on my adoption story.
5th Grade Kindness Retreat
CSE Parents and Community,
Our school believes that to do well in school, students need to feel physically and emotionally safe. In this effort to create a safe and caring culture, we are having a Youth Frontiers Kindness Retreat®. This year we are exceptional thrilled to be pairing with Discovery Elementary in Waite Park for a joint Kindness Retreat. Half of our ROCORI 5th Grade will be traveling to Discovery Elementary and half of the Discovery Elementary 5th Grade Students will be coming to Cold Spring. This is made possible through an Achievement and Integration Grant.
Since 1987, Youth Frontiers (YF) – a nonpartisan, nonpro t organization based in Minneapolis – has been facilitating retreats to build positive school communities that help young people realize the importance
of respecting themselves and others. Their vision is to change the way young people treat each other in every hallway, lunch line and classroom of every school in America so that today’s young people make tomorrow’s world better. Last year, YF worked with more than 127,000 students and educators throughout the country. On the Kindness Retreat, the YF Retreat Staff will focus on creating a more positive school community by engaging students in a variety of activities that build students’ empathy skills and teach safe ways to help prevent bullying and unkind behaviors.
This high-energy, interactive retreat is scheduled for October 10th for the 5th grade class and will be held at BOTH DISCOVERY ELEMENTARY AND COLD SPRING ELEMENTARY.
To continue the positive effects of the retreat experience, we believe it’s important for the entire community to be involved in supporting and communicating the messages delivered on the retreat. Because of this, we encourage parents and caregivers to inquire about the retreat experience once the student returns home by asking the following questions:
1. What activities did you find fun?
2. What were the small-group leaders like?
3. What were some of the unkind actions going on at school that you discussed? 4. Have you been affected by the unkind actions?
5. Did you talk about how you as a class can work on that?
6. What was the most important thing you learned?
7. What is one thing you can do tomorrow at school to show kindness?
Visit youthfrontiers.org/kindness-retreat for more information on Youth Frontiers and to watch a video about the Kindness Retreat.
